am i just paranoid or will this make it harder to get evidence of abuse etc. while being presented as a wholesome anti-phone-surveillance thing?

Fuck. There’s layers to this that I, again, didn’t think of before I read these comments. Yeah, forbidding any scrutiny could also be bad.

Before knee-jerk “let people enjoy things” chants, I want to stress that not all fun that partygoes seek at parties is necessarily mutually consenting, or even directed toward conscious people.

Not debate bro’ing but Brock Turner was video taped wasn’t he? The rampant toxic misogynistic culture doesn’t really seem to care about being filmed and law enforcement and the judicial system don’t either.

I’d rather there be some way of at least presenting wrongdoing whether or not it’s actually punished after it happens.

Saying “it wasn’t punished therefore stop trying” is a head-first dive into the is/ought realm of bad ideas.

I’m not saying to stop trying, moreso that the effort needs to be directed at a more productive area like security in these venues. My city scene has plenty of stories of security not caring at all when women complain about bad actors before things have escalated further

The sea of phones at concerts sucks, not to mention people filming and making fun of strangers having a good, weird time. Again, this isn’t saying these issues are more important than assaults, but that phone control policies only seem to impact one end of the spectrum.

i agree, but it’s also able to be removed quickly for some creeper shit.

I’m kind of leaning towards the slightly icky position of “people in this club know that photo evidence is not likely to exist”

I think they change color once peeled off and they check when you leave. I know that factories make people use these pretty frequently.

Fucking clownish that the world is so dominated by creepy techbros that it’s a given that anyone’s camera on anyone’s phone takes pictures/video without the user’s permission or awareness.

In a somewhat less fucked up world that shit would be a criminal act that would shut down the manufacturers.

Oh, right. I forgot some people are voluntarily creeps with their cameras because it rarely crosses my mind.

It seems it doesn’t require prototype “Google Glass” treats for glassholes to be glassholes.

Shame that Google Glass died because I’d like to have this for recording my dog, that way I’d be able to toss him a stick/a ball and just record him by looking at him and not having to awkwardly hold my phone in my off hand.

That’d be great if that was the only use that buyers had for it. It was being used for creep camera antics and general assholery in public, causing many such assholes to get thrown out of public venues and even beat up for being assholes, thus why the product didn’t go into full production.

The augmented reality was also causing hallucinations for people who used them for long periods of time throughout the day. When they took the glasses off, they’d see menus or pop-ups that weren’t there. This doesn’t even get into all the eye strain and damage done to people’s vision.

I think that’s part of why VR hype waves have crested and receded, no matter what “Oculus Rift” and the MAGA sex pest creep with the fetish for exploding headwear tried to push with it.

As James Stephanie Sterling put it once, Oculus Rift was “privilege goggles” that expected not just a significant cost to buy the damn thing, but sufficient floor space to use it and a rather ableistic presumption on the part of the manufacturers for who could actually use the thing for long.

I never understood why they make shit you have to wear on your face when like 70% of the population wears glasses already.

Something I didn’t find out until I was in physical therapy is how we rely on our sight for balance. One of the things they have you do when learning how to walk and stand again is closing your eyes and trying to balance on one foot. I’ve never been less interested in VR because of that.
