I remember reading how a mosque got approved to be built somewhere nearby and a ton of residents protested it, and eventually the citied turned around and prohibited it from being built

It wasn’t just a bunch of residents, it was an organised campaign by a designated hate group, boosted by Fox and backed by many Democrats.

The mosque and interfaith cultural center was going to be at least two city blocks from the site of WTC, but both the name ‘the Ground Zero Mosque’ that stuck and the campaign itself was started by Stop Islamification Of America.

It was an offshoot that was specifically started at the request of the leader of Stop Islamification Of Nations in Europe, which is a straight up anti-Muslim hate group, proscribed in some countries despite their own government’s Islamophobia, and connected to other racist orgs like Generation Identity and the English Defense League here in the UK.

I hate starchitects I hate starchitects I hate starchitects you are designing a building for living people in a society not making an artistic statement about the size of your dick noone gives a shit that your steel girders are inverted on the facade which makes the glass evoke a more organic pattern no one sees this they see yet another glass-steel facade of a big ugly boring building you are not a unique genius you will not overturn the worlds concept of beauty especially not since you’re doing the same as everyone else but you think you’re not talk to people around you and accept the basic fact that the building doesnt belong to you I hate starchitects I hate starchitects I hate starchitects

This rant is brought to you by “If you’re project lead on a new city block, but all you care about is that it’s pretty, why don’t you go play with Legos and allow me to worry about things like ‘will these 2000 new people need more plumbing than what we’ve implemented for an industrial neighborhood’ and ‘when we place your stupid fucking big blocks that you think are innovative because you dared to make the roofs colourful, do you think that maybe the literal sand under your castles might sink a bit and we’re at risk of flooding?’ featuring hits like ‘Im begging you please talk to one person who has trouble walking before you decide to surround all your buildings with a curb’, ‘if you’re not going to make public transport available at least fix the road you’re planning to add 2000 more travellers to, add a dedicated bike lane I’m begging you, yes I know its fine right now, but theres not 2000 people using it every day’ and of course the all time great ‘reverse gentrification isn’t a thing you stupid motherfucker, please read any book on the subject I hate you die’” industries.

I’m begging you please if you’re going to make a “family neighbourhood” ask yourself questions like “do kids go to school?” and “do people need groceries?”

Just like retail workers should be allowed to kill one customer per year, urban planners should be allowed to execute one architect with a machete every year

    Best (worst) ones…

    • Twin Towers but just gold
    • Big stack of three presents wrapped in USA flag
    • Building everywhere except the original footprint of the two tower
    • Colourful tentacles of peace that don’t seem to have any usable space in them
    • The terrible one that spells 911 like a doodle in school notebook

Only one they should have done:

    • Twin Towers made of light projected out of a park

Wild that trump didn’t suggest the pissgold towers. Of all of them the light towers are among the coolest, but the light pollution would make me sad - Incredible that they found a way to make the NYC night sky worse

Oh yeah for sure, I was more thinking that two large beacons would probably manage to do even more damage to wildlife somehow

I was thinking of things like migrating birds, ocean life and bugs. Lights can mess them up and I’m thinking that adding two large beacons would probably make it worse. It’s already bad, but I’d imagine two massive beacons make the light pollution cover a larger area or intensify the current damage. I don’t know though

I gotta say, I did not expect the one that looks like an orange/green tentacle monster attacking the city, nor the big fuck-off cardboard box eclipsing the entire skyline

the most baffling one to me is the one that’s like “let’s build a ceiling everywhere the smoke and debris spread, to trap smog and make manhattan permanently unbearable”
