NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A Super Bowl halftime show performer was charged Thursday with two misdemeanors, about 4 1/2 months after he ran across the field at the Superdome waving a flag that included the words “Sudan and Free Gaza,” Louisiana State Police said.

Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, 41, turned himself in to authorities to face of charges resisting a police officer and disturbing the peace by interrupting a lawful assembly, police said. He surrendered in coordination with his attorney and was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.

Nantambu revealed the flag and ran on the field during rapper Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance on Feb. 9. He was detained on the field after his demonstration but not charged. The NFL said at the time he would be banned for life from league stadiums and events.

According to a statement from police, Nantambu had been hired as an extra performer and “had permission to be on the field during the performance, but did not have permission to demonstrate as he did.”

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy thanked investigators for their work.

“We take any attempt to disrupt any part of an NFL game, including the halftime show, very seriously and are pleased this individual will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” McCarthy said in a statement.

The idea that the worst can’t happen here is a classic mistake.

In 1984, Sarajevo hosted the Olympics, and the entire world saw a modern European city in a civilized country. A decade later, it was under siege, it’s buildings bombed, and it’s people starving.

How many videos have we seen of crumbling building in war zones? Every one of those locations was once a city with high-rises, residences, offices, schools, hospitals, etc., filled with normal people, going about their normal day, thinking they were safe in their city. Now it’s all flattened.

Bad stuff happens to big cities all the time, and it will happen again. It is arrogant hubris to think that your country or your city is above all that. The country that will bomb you doesn’t agree, and their opinion counts.

Sarajevo was in the Socialist Federated Republic of Yugoslavia. The SFRY was the example of a civilized country. It was a pioneer of the Non-Aligned Movement, and if you had asked anyone living there back then what they would feel if the USA disintegrated, you’d be met with indifference.

The United States was deeply instrumental in destroying that country, much like it destroyed Vietnam, Korea, Cambodia, Laos, Somalia, Sudan, Libya, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, and enacted disastrous regime changes in more countries than you can name in one breath, or maybe two whole breaths.

The primary root cause of war in the modern era is capitalist expansion, and the greatest lever of this expansion is the United States. It’s not redeemable in its current form; Trump is the scourge of God upon America.

America isn’t blameless, but come on, Israel and Russia have been throwing around a lot more bombs than America.

Although, I will admit, a lot of those Israeli bombs are America built.
