  • I’m listening, and we can talk, but…

you should have to prove it first however

Whether you or I find gun ownership a Constitutional right, the courts agree it is, and have done so historically. (Unless the owner is black, but that’s another story.)

The “prove” part is a hard “no”. I don’t have to “prove” any of my Constitutional rights. New York had that notion and the court, rightfully IMHO, shot it down. In Alabama you had to have the county sheriff sign off on your “need” to conceal carry. Any guesses as to how that was applied?

guns affect more than the person who has one

I think we’re close here…? What do you mean exactly? In any case, how would we remedy the situation? I’m on the constant lookout for gun laws that will pass the courts and have effect.

(And thank you for taking the time to write that up. So rare in these discussions.)

  • You think a shelter is going to take a mad dog when the police refuse to intervene?! Shelters are automatic, “kill all pits” crematoriums. Man the fuck up and handle it yourself if the authorities refuse.

Had to shoot a wild pig tearing up my yard and terrorizing my pet pig. Called the Humane Society, local pig shelter, cops (twice), animal control (twice), “We don’t handle feral pigs.” Cops: “It’s up to the home owner to handle the situation as he sees fit.” Fuck me. Had to shotgun and bury her and I fucking hated doing so. Still tears me up at times. What else was I to do?

LOL, libs can be Karens all day. “Gosh! Call the authorities! I pay my taxes so someone else will handle the ugly parts of life!” Well Karen, sometimes you have to grow a pair and deal with life and death. And most often, it sucks doing so.

  • Hi! I’m going to pick your brain because this is on my mind tonight.

My family happily eats meat. I’ve never hunted anything but a few fish, rarely and not for decades. So, there’s the background.

Noticed there are LOADS of squirrels around. In my yard, at my camp, in the woods. Thought about harvesting a few. (Turns out I’m too soft, what if I shoot someone’s wife?!, but I thought about it.) My kids were horrified at the notion. “But you’re happy killing chickens and cows for your McDonalds?!”

Kayaking tonight, I ran into a monstrous rookery in the swamp. Egrets I think? Great Herons? Anyway, they seem always in the same place, by the hundreds and hundreds. Thought, “How about bringing a 20-gauge and shooting down dinner?” My wife was horrified. “Birds are not food!” So I brought out a pack of chicken, “Chickens aren’t birds!” (She’s Filipino, something may have got lost in the translation…)

What are your thoughts? I dated a vegan once who couldn’t admit that hunting your own food was morally superior to farm tortured meat. Uh… I don’t get it. If you’re going to eat meat, isn’t harvesting your own the moral choice?
