Maybe it isn’t about good/bad, maybe consider anti-imperialism?

(An anarchist account from Masto that has quite the following so posting here, but without links.)

Edit. Added a link to the thread because it keeps getting boosted to my timeline by Western “leftists” and I think it deserves to be dunked on.

I think their answer is that the international working class should just spontaneously refuse to fight wars. I don’t see how this is seen as viable. Or maybe its just a politics of vain hope, they did retweet some rando being like “we’ll almost certainly lose, fight anyway”

I wonder if anyone ever wrote anything about the spontaneity of the masses. Perhaps in 1903 in Russia? Never mind, must be my imagination.

They’ll still call it “both sides-ism” and change the definition of imperialism just like they did with “genocide” to get their team off the hook.

I 100% believe there is no way to change these people’s minds. The best we can hope for is someone who isn’t very informed seeing the liberal/left slapfight and pick our side.

Same person is out here advocating for the US intervening in Ukraine the same way they helped israel shoot down iranian drones. Or maybe that’s supposed to be some sort of irony. Regardless it would cause more suffering than this iranian strike ever could

    More bangers include (paraphrasing):

    • “Hamas and israel should just both disband and be tried for their crimes” (no mention of how this can be achieved).
    • “Israel’s military conflict with Hamas is happening in parallel to Israel’s genocide, but they’re unrelated”

its just such powerful idealism. Like I’m with them, mostly, morally, but all I can see is them disavowing absolutely any mechanism for actually achieving any of those moral outcomes besides “spontaneous self organization of the working class”, and I’m not convinced they wouldn’t find a way to disavow that too as soon as it formed an organization or made any decision they disagree with.

If anything the iranian strike was perfectly tailored to beat this argument of “well it was just iran lobbing drones and missiles at the israeli working class” because they weren’t. They targeted only military installations, effectively zero civilian effect besides stress.

But also, tried for war crimes by whom? Can’t be another state or collection of them because they just said their right do anything don’t real and is an artifice. The direct democratic will of the decentralized working class in a post-state society? Well, if that was the ultimate political body of the global socio-economic system then we’d be in a situation where Israel and Hamas were already non-entities so there’d be no trial to be had.

Which sums up the issue with this sort of approach to geopolitics, the solution to the problem is based on having a system in which the problem categorically cannot exist, but with no road map to get to that system; how do they propose we get there from here?

Same one that had an unencrypted copy of their entire database taken by the fbi (a server admin had a copy locally to troubleshoot an issue and then got raided)

Could happen to anyone, I guess, but unencrypted is pretty rough, unless it was encrypted at rest and the feds did a silk-road style raid to get their unlocked computer, which seems unlikely.

    • It’s true, there’s nothing technically wrong with the part quoted in the OP, but the context shows the point they’re actually trying to make, which is that Iran is bad and so was their retaliation against Israel.

Watching people stumble over themselves in a rush to praise the Iranian regime for engaging in inter-state conflict that is unrelated to and has no material effect on the genocide in Gaza is predictable but still a bummer.

To begin with, it’s just plain wrong to say that Iran’s strike against the entity had no material benefit to people in Gaza, who got the most significant reprieve from the constant aerial bombardment of their homes in 6 months. And that’s just the immediate effects to say nothing about how well this exposed the vulnerability of the paper tiger and what that means to other regional forces going forward. More to the point though, this person doesn’t understand or care about anti-imperialism because they’re too blinded by their “all states are inherently evil” dipshittery. It’s the same kind of babybrained take as “Russia is just as bad as NATO.” They said a lot more garbage but it’s not worth getting into and bleepbloopbop covered some of it already.
