Did everyone already forget the “Z” symbols on Russia’s vehicles at the beginning of the invasion? Wtf

Yeah, this isn’t some made up lib stuff, Russian armed forces were literally marking themselves with a Z. The tweet is of course dumb still.

Sometimes I wonder if it is people just being willfully obtuse. Like, a random twitter user not getting it I understand, but given the absolute shitton of posts about the war on here you’d think people would recognize it.

Ah, but you are assuming that most people are engaging with the discussion to add something or to learn. The majority of the time people are just flapping their lips to sound knowledgeable and authoritative about it and thus feed their ego. It doesn’t matter if they actually are, only that they think they are and come across to other ignoramuses that they are.

This is the first I’ve ever heard of Zs being used on Russian vehicles. I’ve never spent long enough examining any of the war footage in detail to go like “oh there’s a little letter Z painted on that tank”, at most I might think “the tank is painted with some markings to identify it” and move on to whatever the actual focus of the picture was.

I don’t not believe this is a thing, I’m mainly bewildered at how I managed to never hear of this at all until now. Apparently I don’t hang out in the right parts of the internet to have seen this, from my recollection the first 6 months of the war was mainly people adding the Ukraine flag to their usernames and spamming it everywhere, plus some grainy footage on r/CrazyFuckingVideos etc.

It wasn’t just used on the vehicles that you could see in grainy war footage. It has been widely used in both pro and anti russian demonstrations for the last 3 years as a symbol for the war. How about instead of instantly assuming that someone you disagree with is inherently wrong about everything and trying to clown on them you look it up?

At worst this is just an example of the “oh, you think posting about milk is racist” smuglord shit. It isn’t really a subtle symbol at all, it is at about the same level as using watermelons for Palestine.

Then either you’ve been living under a rock, are very young, or the algorithm of the platforms you use has not been showing you that, because it’s been openly used as a marking on their military vehicles since day 1 of the Ukraine invasion, and has become a symbol for both sides of propaganda.

Or when you spent “long enough researching in detail” you somehow missed the Wikipedia page for it (first result in Kagi and third in DDG for “Z symbol” - link doesn’t render properly on some clients because it has parentheses)

Ok first of all, Nazism was never fully defeated thanks the the West not denazifying properly after WW2 and then spreading it to post Soviet countries and the Middle East after the the fall of the USSR.

Second of all, communism was never truely defeated as there are still communist countries out there, and for the rest of us it lives on in our hearts.

Lmao you answered with russophobic homophobia. Russophobia coming from German people should be treated as what it is: a remnant of Nazism brainworm in your society. Seriously, you can’t understand why, as a German, you should be as careful around Russians (of whom more than 10 million died in the struggle against Nazism) as around Jewish people?

Its hyperbolic. MLs however are the only ones that arent fash about russia & palestine, anarchs and radlibs are whats described though. And they are greatly at fault for punching left all the time by calling antisemities all the time, when they advocate for palestine.

you got the zionists, you got the pro-NATO punks, you got the nazbols, you got the Greens who want WW3 and are actually super villains

In America you have a diverse and large proletariat, although confused and corrupt there at least is historical knowledge of struggle for civil rights, gay rights, anti-war movements, indigenous rights, immigrant rights, etc.

In Germany you have a bunch of people who are closet Nazis, literally just believe what their grandparents did but keep it on the downlow, or arrogant libs who think they had a PhD in Genocide studies to scold everyone else in the world about how they are anti-semites for opposing Israel in any way while they attend dinner parties with the aforementioned fascists.

In Germany even the left is pro-Israel, obsessed with respectability, pro-NATO and anti-Russia.

Usually they respond to these accusations with ‘BUT I DIDNT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT GAYS!’

For me, the worst problem with sexual insults (aside from how obnoxiously high schoolish they sound) is that they rely on our culture’s stigmatization of sex to be effective. They simply don’t work if you see sexual favours merely as personal matters rather than phenomena that are somehow ‘inherently’ shameful.

I have never been into fellation. I would prefer not to see anybody either discuss or mention it on a regular basis. But employing it as an insolent metaphor should not make any sense, in the same way that nobody employs massages or assisted bathing as insolent metaphors. There are phenomena so much worse than fellating somebody, and employing it as a metaphor implies that merely aiding someone is neither serious nor shocking enough.

Well it no longer mocks sexuality in general, it’s specifically hyperreactionary because it’s misogynistic/homophobic. The insults are always attacking the person “getting fucked” not “doing the fucking”. There’s an inherent pro-top anti-bottom bias where it’s demeaning to have sex with men.
