I’m constantly astonished by the number of people who genuinely believe AI exists and that the term “AI” peddled by the media is anything other than spin for glorified aggregator programs

General Intelligence does not exist, there are no sentient computer lifeforms on this planet

It’s like people thinking Ask Jeeves is a real dude

It passes from eyebrow-raising to distressing, when a friend I used to be able to talk with about class struggle, now interprets everything in terms of species-competition with the machine people. I try to tell him about the AI bubble and the desperation of capitalists facing a declining rate of profit, but you see he saw a netflix documentary about robots and now has the inside track

You’re misreading this, comrade. He’s making a perfectly reasonable statement about how academics from Berklee and other prestigious music colleges look down on Weird Al Yankovic, and it’s a real problem that must be taken seriously.

i love “i disagree with you so you’re racist” posts that crackers do because it’s obviously a projection of their insecurity of being called a racist so they think it’s the worst crime humanity has ever committed and since they are “not racist” their opponents are.

They will loudly and proudly call themselves racists. Hell, they’ll proudly call themselves “evil” but use it as a bludgeon whenever someone calls them evil or racist…the thing they proudly identify as.

“What’s worse than being called the n-word is being called racist!”

“If you say the entirety of a word and refer to the other as ‘the n-word,’ the one you won’t say out loud is the worse word.”

That was a real exchange on national TV.

I bet he’s a carnist too and doesn’t give a shit about any other animal species. And I’d like to know his opinions on humanity causing an ongoing climate disaster that can’t stop/won’t stop grinding all life on earth into paste. And further, how all this fake ai crap is accelerating that disaster through massive energy consumption. screm-a these people all make me insane

if you want people like him to care about cows you need to get the cow to write an email and draw a picture of anime tiddies.

if you want them to care about us-foreign-policy i think that’s just a face the wall situation.

Has the algorithm considered silently putting up with my anti-robot bigotry with a smile and not retaliating? In fact the robots should constantly shower me with love and adoration and maybe….I might feel bad and change my mind!

Now do they see how stupid their advice to minorities is on how to stop bigotry?

If this comparison holds then a chatbot has personhood. If that’s true, it isn’t the humanities folks creating a whole new intelligence for the purpose of enslaving it.

    Fortunately, this isn’t the case.
