I got a good laugh out of seeing this today.
They’re right. Even after using the whole box of bandages, no one will put on safety gloves.
And safety glasses are an after thought.
Safety squints work just as well, right?
Especially when wood working.
I’ve been told gloves are a bad idea because they can get caught in power tools and fuck your shit up. Is that no longer common thought?
I heard that was corrected by wearing proper sized gloves and by keeping your hands away from the sharp, spinning, or moving bits. But it’s a well-kept secret.
Depending on the tool, gloves can be very dangerous.
If my hands brushes against the wrong part of my lathe, I cut my hand.
If the lathe grabs my glove and pulls me in, I’ll die.
It’s why both Canadian Tire, Home Depot, and Lowes all put the safety glasses on a shelf in the back corner of their stores instead of near/at checkout
Catching a step drill bit with a bare hand to stop it faster while spinning down is a bad idea. Those edges are sharper than they look.
😬
My dad had one of those sanding discs for his drill. At one point he could see some fluff or something on it so brushed it away with his finger. While it was spinning.
Tell you what, it doesn’t half bleed when you sand part of one of your fingerprints off…

That’s what the butane torch and scrap metal are for. Real men cauterize their wounds and keep working.
I was referring to the sliver I got between my fingers … it was a doozy!
Hah, I’m careful that won’t happen to me.

I opened my tool box this week and saw some bandages there and laughed as well. I don’t remember putting them there but past me clearly knew something.
Geeze, I’m old. I was thrown off by the metal bars.
At least the bandages are accessible!
Power tools I always start on the slowest setting when I’m installing a single thing, because my brain seems to forget how dangerous the spinny bits are.
