As a certified Mad Max Enjoyer, I’m obligated to tell you that gas going bad isn’t ignored by the plots of the Mad Max movies. They are drilling and refining (or at the very least refining) new gas in the Mad Max universe. They do not rely on stockpiles from before the end of the world.
You know? That probably does happen. But I’m going to (until I watch it again and go “huh, UlyssesT was right”) assume it was a desperation situation and not the normal way to get gas.
I do remember Gas Town being a place and a major plot point in Fury Road, so I figured it was a sort of kitbash of everything to make vroom vroom go boom boom.

I thought I remembered a scene in Road Warrior or maybe Thunderdome where Max was trying to get some gas out of a tank of a derelict car.
