“If you’re a Twitter diehard who’s not willing to swap to X, it might be finally time to ditch X for Mastadon or Threads. On your way out, don’t forget to delete your X account.”

    Best advice in the article.

I’m on mastodon, but the problem is none of the people I want to follow are (mostly sports press). for now I am relying on bots who just repost their stuff from twitter, and sometimes they go down for long periods of time. at this rate I’m not sure mastodon will ever take off for what I used twitter for.

And threads is equally shitty, or worse than twitter. I begrudgingly signed up for an instagram account to try it, followed a few people, then my feed was crammed full of instagram catfish and sad ass middle aged dudes asking for dates. I get that they’re trying to hook you with algorithms, but in the process they’ve made the service literally unusable.

Yea I tried threads recently myself & had the exact same problems. I followed like a total of 3 people, yet my feed was filled with utter crap that I wasn’t the slightest bit interested in…

I’ve been on it for about a month. All the people I followed on Instagram (that have downloaded threads) automatically were added to my follows. Lots of Sci Fi and movie discussion

          Politics, too.

My experience has actually been pretty good. It’s like Twitter but with a lot more leftists stuff

Maybe if I had given it a real chance and started following a few more people, I might have had a much better experience. My feed was filled with random stuff that I was never going to have any interest in…

I’ve never used Twitter a lot and I’ve mostly stopped using it, but Mastodon is just not a viable alternative for most people. I used Twitter to keep up with things. I made a Mastodon account like two years ago, but almost none of the people or organisations I care about are on there. And most of the ones that are on it aren’t posting. So I’m basically never using it. The same is true for Bluesky. Threads may be better but I’d rather avoid anything from Facebook.

Well you’ll soon be able to subscribe to the big accounts on Threads, even from Mastodon, provided your server allows it.

I personally wonder if the time for this kind of microblogging hasn’t come and gone now. A lot of media on Instagram but my teenage kids don’t use Twitter, don’t want to use Twitter and don’t care about what happens to Twitter. Pry TikTok out of their hands, though…

But that’s what Elon wants, and fuck that guy.

Twitter or Xitter for me. Maaaaybe X (formerly known as Twitter), but never X alone.

Especially because it’s a fucking confusing name in a tech space. I swear I thought the headline referred to X Window at first.

Well, in my experience, calling it Twitter or any variation helps people stay in negation about the fact that Twitter is dead, and calling it x makes people more likely to open their eyes and delete their account, and losing users is what really hurts musk. I already helped all the people from my close friends circle to move out from that shit.

I guess both actions have ups and downs.

To me, calling it Twitter reminds me of the shitty shit Twitter has ever been. I never liked the thing. I vividly remember when BBC started quoting random tweets - it made me a little sick. Then all news outlets followed suit.

And if Elon hates it that people call it Twitter, then even better!

I’ve been plotting to exclusively talk of x as if it was some brand new microblogging site where you pay for the entire thing and it’s userbase and administration is kinda unhinged.

Yea corporations have feelings and are sentient creatures too! These fucking people above you don’t understand how insensitive it is to not correctly call a company by its proper identity. If Twitter wants to identify as X it can do so.

Just as Windows can Identify as Windows 11 but it’s really just NT underneath. Or kinda how Prince purposely changed his name to fuck over record labels. He identified as someone else but was really the same character and song writer. Kinda like how GMC is Chevy is Cadillac is Pontiac is geo and Buick. Or radio shack renaming themselves “the shack”. Or how Nissan was Datsun. Or Pizza Hut with their “the hut” Name change, still sold the same pizza.

I started this as me attempting to be contrarian towards you…but I kinda came full circle on this one for myself lmao. Swing so hard left I came back around to the right. (My point, not my entire political opinions)

Please call it Twitter in the title unless there’s a good reason not to. I thought this was Xorg.

Yeah. No such thing as moderation on Facebook anymore. I’ve reported porn, abuse and a lot of other things. Never gets removed…

Why are people still using a site bought and run by a guy supporting the rise of Christian fascism solely for the purposes of getting tax breaks on his ill-gotten billions?
