Unfortunately I had to do a completely new run of elden ring to make it to the dlc and had already put in about 100 hours.

Now that I’m in the dlc I’m about halfway through it and starting to get burnt out.

I can tell it’s really good. I think I’m just burnt out on Elden ring because it’s all I’ve been playing lately in an attempt to unlock the dlc

Tldr I wish I would have had my Xbox and my old character to jump straight into the dlc instead of starting over on ps5 and playing through nearly the entire base hame.

No reason not to just take a break? I replayed the game over a month or so with a friend of mine mostly in coop, just to have a fresh character after respeccing my original one to beat melania shortly after release, but I’m pretty sure if I did the DLC and the Main Game closer together I’d get burned out too. And I definitely wouldn’t want to get burned out for a game like this, considering it’s presumably going to be a pretty long time until we get another game by Fromsoft.

Yeah that’s basically it. Most people had characters that they had already beaten rhe game with and could hop straight into the dlc.

I played the game all the way up until malenia just to acsess the dlc, and now I’m starting to feel burnt out in the middle of the dlc.

I think you’re right. Take a break play some other games and then come back and finish the second half of the dlc

I’m having a real hard time completing any fromsoft games in general. I usually get to 90% point and then just can’t bring myself to actually finish it

          Yes

          story spoilers

He is Radahn’s soul inhabiting Mogh’s body (There are Omen horns on his model, and phase one of the fight even uses Bloodflame).

Malenia went to Caelid on Miquella’s orders to kill Radahn’s soul with the scarlet rot while keeping his body alive (much like what happened to Godwyn the Golden). Then after the tarnished kills Mogh, his body was whisked away to the Shadow Realm (where dead things end up) for Miquella to combine the two into his new consort. Why he couldn’t just drag Radahn’s body down too idk, it’s Empyrean shit - maybe creating a new demigod consort was easier than convincing his brother to do incest instead of just staring at the stars all day. Meanwhile Miquella shedding his body all over the place is kind of like what Ranni did in the main game. The damn twink set everyone up!

This is explained in the quest with Ansbach and Freyja in the Shadow Keep Storehouse, but given fromsoft storytelling I’m probably wrong on a detail or two.

He has to be dead to fulfill the role he plays?? Did you even play the DLC? They tell you this over and over.

In Messmer’s castle, I think most of the NPCs as well as notes you pick up refer to both of the two required vanilla bosses’ corpses being moved or otherwise manipulated. They also talk about a ritual, I believe one NPC even connecting the dots for the player and saying explicitly what the ritual is for and that the corpse is for the ritual. It’s the most coherent and opaque FromSoft lore has ever been.

Whether it’s GOOD that that’s the boss is up for debate, I certainly don’t agree. But it isn’t an arbitrary decision.

Let me know if you are able to recall which npc it is that talks about the ritual. Would love to read their lives. But definitely don’t stress about it.

Redmane Freyja and Sir Ansbach. You bring a letter to Freyja from Ansbach who elaborates some. You also bring a scroll about the ritual to Ansbach who lays it all out quite clear. The dialogue is all on fextralife so you don’t have to replay the entire DLC

I had this exact same issue. For me, my solution was to go Bloodfiend’s Arm and not make every boss a struggle session, and work pretty quickly towards ending it. I’ll go much slower and deeper the next time I play it on NG+, probably next year.

Yeah it sucks because fromsoft is my favorite developer after Nintendo. I want to enjoy this and take it all in, but I’ve just had too much elden ring too fast and I’m ready to move on.

I honestly think I would have preferred a smaller more contained DLC Ala the ringed city or the old hunters.

I’m still going to give this an 8.5 I just don’t think it reaches the heights of those two.

Actually pretty strong disagreement here, larger expansions like Far Harbor, Shadow of the Erdtree, and Phantom Liberty can usually better explore new ideas and expand on the base game in a meaningful way IMO.

I think that’s understandable since that is just a lot of video game. You could try taking a break and playing it later. If you are worried about breaking the continuity, I think you could make a new character, farm levels in the mohgwyn dynasty area and then just beat Radahn and Mohg to enter the DLC then go from there.
