President Biden is expected to sign an executive order on Tuesday allowing him to temporarily seal the U.S. border with Mexico to migrants when crossings surge, a move that would suspend longtime protections for asylum seekers in the United States.

. . .

The order would represent the single most restrictive border policy instituted by Mr. Biden, or any modern Democrat, and echoes a 2018 effort by President Donald J. Trump to block migration that was assailed by Democrats and blocked by federal courts.

No Senate Presbyterian to stop it?

No existing court ruling that can peripherally be interpreted to be against it?

No articles in MSM about how this is such a terrible idea? Or handwringing from rich pricks about how they’re ‘unsure’?

You don’t need Republicans when you have Democrats. They always end up normalizing policies from the last Republican president, which they previously pretended to oppose. clown

I haven’t seen a lot of libs talk about this. They’re still enjoying the high they received from the Trump conviction stuff. Perfect timing for the Biden regime to do some ratfuckery.

Migrant crossings are still at a historic low, right?

The choice Americans must make this November is stark: Donald Trump’s third term, or the continuation of his second term?

Gotcha. thank you for the update.

Expulsions: Migrants are immediately expelled to their home country or last country of transit without being held in U.S. custody. Expulsions are carried out under Title 42 of the U.S. code, a previously rarely used section of the law that the Trump administration invoked during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. The law empowers federal health authorities to stop migrants from entering the country if it is determined that barring them could prevent the spread of contagious diseases.

Lolololol invoking the old “unclean vermin” dealio when the official US policy is “if you see someone coughing ask, them to spit directly in your mouth”. Oh wait my bad, the Feds stopped using that excuse in '23. Whoopsie, reaeding comprehension fail moment on my part.

Poor Obummer never got credit for the most vicious suppression of migrant workers in recent history.

It’s about time. My god, what took him so long?

You don’t have to be a xenophobic racist to believe that the United States should control its borders.

I’m a lifetime liberal Democrat and I do.

The President completely missed the target on this one. He could have done this 2 years ago and eliminated a potent election issue . . .

I am the son of immigrants. These issues always hit close to home for me.

It is about time these changes are putting in place. I want my country to be a place of asylum, and find myself inspired by our history of a golden shore, but we’re seeing surges of economic immigrants never seen before who are taking advantage of our asylum laws and systems to do so.

I’m not sure what Biden is doing. Most likely he has no idea either because he thinks it’s 1985 and he’s in the senate still. But whatever whoever is doing, doubling solar panel costs the other day, not pushing for student debt relief (“pushing” he can just do it. Congress already empowered him. There’s nothing to discuss), totally buying into one of the most obvious lies from the right wing, and of course endlessly fueling a genocide… all of this in the last ~year heading into an election

Like is Trump literally the president like his weirdest followers have been saying? Because this has been Trump’s second term. I guess we really are gonna get that third term the stupid MAGA dumbasses kept “joking” about circa 2015/16

Setting the US up for receiving an influx of white European immigrants over the next two decades, who will be replacing the non-white immigrants that have been the backbone of US economy for decades.

The Republicans wanted to build a white supremacist state for white Americans only, but this fantasy is completely unrealistic and ignores the fact that America is and will always be a country of immigrants. The expulsion of non-white immigrant labor will completely devastate its economy without a new replacement source.

The Democrats have the right idea in that the expulsion of non-white immigrants must be replaced with white European immigrants. Now that Europe has been permanently deindustrialized, and as the continent falls into further austerity, destabilization and economic despair following the “Russian threat”, mass emigration from Europe will become inevitable over the next couple decades. Where will they end up? Most of them will end up in the US, of course.

Joe Biden plans to be the founding Fuhrer of the Fourth Reich. This is competent fascism in action.

Setting the US up for receiving an influx of white European immigrants over the next two decades, who will be replacing the non-white immigrants that have been the backbone of US economy for decades.

That is a massive copeium dream not even MAGA believes that, if anyone actualy thinks massive amounts of French/German/Italians are going to cross the Atlantic just to work in a Mcdonalds for not even $15 an hour.

We need to wait for WW3 and complete actual massive death and destruction of European cities for this to be even remotely feasible.

But even if you disregard all of that, in 20 years time climate change will sink Florida and make most of the USian south a massive shithole. The current “liberal” paradise of NW/NE will have to deal with their own internal migration problems. I foresee chuds trying to raid and kill liberals well before Americans being open to such a massive immigration, even if white Europeans, they tend to be technically quite a bit more liberal than Americans liberals even.

Again chuds would rather kill white liberals than work with them. Of course when under threat liberals will always work with the fascists anyway, but it doesn’t mean there wont be conflicts.

In 20 years I’d bet on EU’s internal migration issues(periphery towards the center/north) before anything else. Also its a given they’ll be genociding every African/ME migrant crossing the Mediterranean too. They’ll be busy closing their borders both ways.

I don’t think you (and to be fair, quite a lot of people) are aware of the extent to which the European economy has been devastated since 2022. That was the whole point of starting a war in Ukraine.

Just like in the early 20th century, it is only a matter of time before desperate people start to flee from economic despair, fascism and war and came all the way to America, risking and leaving everything behind with the hopes of starting a new life.

America might be bad, but it would be even worse in Europe.

The EU is definitely suffering but please remember that EU social democracy to the extent it still exists, far exceeds the working class privileges of the regular American. It would be a joke to even compare the two. To suggest Europeans are suddenly going to migrate to the US is to ignore American’s own cost of life crisis, don’t we get people constantly complaining about rent and stuff here on HB? Most are not European you know.

Everything from healthcare, housing and education is still far far more expensive overall in the US than the major EU countries and again, while we can argue whether some German IT guy would work in California/Texas that IT guy is not ever going to be working in a McDonalds in Atlanta or Michigan unless Berlin is firebombed again.

There is no disagreement that EU economy is not going well, but keeping perspective in mind we are talking about neoliberal mainstream economic terms most of the time, GDP stagnation doesn’t mean a G7 country is suddenly in the same material conditions as some African country overnight.

“This is the first president in the history of the United States of America that anybody seeking asylum has to do it in another country,” Mr. Biden said at the time. “That’s never happened before.”

“You come to the United States and you make your case,” he added. “That’s how you seek asylum, based on the following premise, why I deserve it under American law.”

    hey…uh… what does this mean???
