Walter Rodney, born in Guyana on 22nd of march in 1942, Pan-African, Marxist intellectual who was assassinated by the Guyanese government in 1980 at 38 years old.
Rodney attended the University College of the West Indies in 1960 and was awarded a first class honors degree in History in 1963. He later earned a PhD in African History in 1966 at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, England, at the age of 24.
Rodney traveled extensively and became well-known as an activist, scholar, and formidable orator. He taught at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania from 1966-67 and 1969-1974, and in 1968 at his alma mater University of the West Indies.
On October 15th, 1968, the government of Jamaica declared Rodney a “persona non grata” and banned him from the country. Following his dismissal by the University of the West Indies, students and poor people in West Kingston protested, leading to the “Rodney Riots”, which caused six deaths and millions of dollars in damages.
In 1972, Rodney published “How Europe Underdeveloped Africa”. Historian Melissa Turner describes the work this way: “A brutal critique of long-standing and persistent exploitation of Africa by Western powers, How Europe Underdeveloped Africa remains a powerful, popular, and controversial work in which Rodney argued that the early period of African contact with Europe, including the slave trade, sowed the seeds for continued African economic underdevelopment and had dramatically negative social and political consequences as well. He argued that, while the roots of Africa’s ailments rested with intentional underdevelopment and exploitation under European capitalist and colonial systems, the only way for true liberation to take place was for Africans to become cognizant of their own complicity in this exploitation and to take back the power they gave up to the exploiters.”
On June 13th, 1980, Rodney was killed in Georgetown, Guyana via a bomb given to him by Gregory Smith, a sergeant in the Guyana Defence Force, one month after returning Zimbabwe. In 2015, a “Commission of Inquiry” in Guyana that the country’s then president, Linden Forbes Burnham, was complicit in his murder.
“If there is to be any proving of our humanity it must be through revolutionary means.”

You gotta sometimes make mid food and give yourself a break
Yeah that’s gonna be Sunday when i make this stir fry that isn’t gonna be very good
We’re doing a special menu Taylor Swifth Brunch tm tomorrow, dunno why we chose now and her, but we did and it’s booked absolutely solid. The chef decided not to make recipes for this new menu and we’re just gonna be making shit up as we go apparently. It’s gonna be a hilarious disaster. A couple of us figured out a few things in our own to make our lives less bad tomorrow but we’ve known this was coming for months and the chef did Jack shit to prepare until.the day before. He’s been dropping many many balls lately and I guess got yelled at by the owner for not having any plan at all for this event brunch that has us packed to the rafters. We’ll scrape by but it’ll be way harder than if we had a plan, so I’m kinda hoping it crashed and burns cause a few of us have a big fat sack of dank I Told You So’s
Wow that’s kinda wtf since that’s literally his fuckin job. I’d get it if he was stressed out doing it because it seems like executive chef shit is a lot to deal with but you make it sound like he’s just been getting high in his office or something, lol
If you got any recipes that still needs worked on I can tell you what my amateur ass would do with them (then maybe you can be like me and be like “yeah this communist chef on my internet site gave me some tips, how cool”)
He’s…neurotic to describe it best. He gets in his own way and changes his mind constantly. He’s a good cook but super disorganized. Me and another who saw this coming a mile away have things more or less figured out between the two of us he’ll back off and we’ll basically run the service. I can pull success out of my ass and she can as well, but we aren’t everyone, so putting out a consistent product is gonna tske a close eye since no one had a solid grasp on what we’re doing. That just means that cause I’ll be running expo, it’ll be up to me in the moment. It’s doable, but Jesus there should be a plan, it’s just that much more to think about. She’s first one there and I’m in at noon, so we’ll do a quick loud heavily abbreviated briefing so I can catch up and probably add my own 2 cents and we’ll get er handled, but the only reason this has a chance of not going totally tits up is cause me and her are really really fuxking good at what we do and anticipated the lack of planning and did it ourselves.
Hope it goes well man
I’ve made my peace with it, it’s only a few hours and I did more than my due diligence, more than the guy who’s job it is put in. At the end of the day, none of it is my responsibility and I’m not gonna kill myself trying to make a bad plan succeed. If people gotta wait, tough shit. My getting stressed out won’t make it go faster. Poor planning on their end does not constitute a crisis on my end. I am a bit concerned about being noon to 8 but there not being adequate staff on until close at 10. Cause as far as I know our night staff is a dishwasher and a dude that just stopped being a dishwasher who cannot solo the line.
Update: brunch was fine. It immediately flowing into a super super super fucking busy dinner service with no prep time in between made today an absolute waking nightmare. The people who came in for the night who didn’t work the brunch seem to have caught The Stupid today, cause balls were being dropped left and right and I was getting some of the dumbest questions I’ve heard in my life, like how to refill the pasta pot or asking me constantly if things in the oven are done or not like I had time to look. No one here is new, they should know what cooked food looks like. Absolute endless blockade for 10 full hours. I Gordon Ramsay’s a few people today, but Jesus christ, they know the job and gotts stop double checking every single thing, especially if I’m backed up to my gills with 5-7 chits and can’t complete any cause different sections got out of sync by either starting early or late, either way, not when I called it and I didn’t hear anyone say anything about a delay while it was happening. As well as a bunch of apps sitting in the window cause front of house aside from 1 dude were also being total dipshits and deciding to only ring in food, not to bring it to any tables. Just total fucking amateur hour.
shit I’m sorry it was so stressful, at least you’re through it and get to smoke a bowl and relax or whatever you like to do
I’m mildly stressed about tomorrow because I need to cook what I think is some kind of Vietnamese beef stir fry and various other things that I’m not very good at cooking and because everybody loved my lasagna and I had to make more during dinner last night I didn’t have time to prep shit for tomorrow. But whatever, the chef will help me get the food out. I am going to do my best to cook good food but if it’s kinda meh whatever
I got shouted out by a medium successful podcast for having once used an epipen recreationally and that turned everything around. Finding out Remebwr Shuffle had a new upload was cool, finding out they’re finally gonna talk about family guy (it’s a podcast about how stupid the 2000s were) and getting a giant shout out for something super dangerous I did once made me roll over laughing.
