What if i do something to day that’ll radically change the future, but in a negative way?

Nope, not thaking that big of a risk. So I’m gonna continue what i already do. Nothing

But isn’t doing nothing just as impactful as doing something small? What if by going out and taking a walk, you bump in to someone, slowing them down by a few seconds. This leads to them narrowly avoiding getting hit by a car. Now they’re dead and it’s your fault, you monster!

But then this person, had the not been hit by a car, and died, would have set into motion the birth of space Hitler.

        Damn you butterfly effect!

But it turns out space Hitler’s name was an unfortunate coincidence and really he led humanity into an intergalactic intersectional utopia. Now you’re still the monster for not taking a walk today!

It is the only safe thing to do! Unless you were meant to do something, and your inactivity changes the world forever…

And that by doing nothing, you force a negative change elsewhere. Shame that you could have done something and not had the negative effect.

It seems very easy to change the future in unintended ways, and much less easy to change it in expected ways.

When people talk about traveling to the past, they worry about radically changing the present by doing something small, but barely anyone in the present really thinks that they can radically change the future by doing something small.

Show me a baby Hitler and I’ll make sure he gets into Venice Art Academy…

And Earnst Röhm starts NSDAP anyway. Göring gets radicalized by Himmler (and probably still orders Röhm executed). The Nuremberg laws still get passed aroung 1935. Heydrich and Eichmann still create the German genocide machine in 1941-1942.

Göring might be better at listening to his generals, prolonging the war. Göring may choose to expand west Revenge for the Versailles treaty rather than the pure hatred of Slavs and Rus…

Sadly, fascist uprisings are about shitty circumstances more than charismic strongman leaders. And when we raise kids to be good statespersons they get filtered out by the hidden oligarchs. See the DCCC response to Occasio-Cortez’ primary victory.

What we can do is start La Résistance right now. Small things like defacing propaganda, disrupting communication and transportation of authorites and law enforcement. Start tiny. Watch for opportunities to use the chaos of overcomplexity to sabotage the bastards. Think it through, how they might catch you, and how you will mitigate their tail.

Don’t forget about the Évian Conference. On the eve of war in 1938 representatives from 32 countries, including the US, UK and Australia, met to “address the problem” of Jewish refugees trying to flee Germany and Austria. Nothing was agreed upon. I’m really ashamed of my Australian countryman T. W. White who said:

As we have no real racial problem, we are not desirous of importing one.

The rest of the world was incredibly prejudice towards the Jewish people at the time as well.

Maybe that is because without having come from the future- you won’t know what small thing to do that would make any meaningful change?

I’ve always believed that if time travel is real it’ll generally take more than what people think to change the future in any significant way. Like if you were to use the visual of many branches on a tree or a river you’d likely see branches reconnect or run closely parallel fairly often.

If I kill my grandfather, might never have grandchildren.

But maybe it’s the other way around.

There is only kne way to find out.

But than again, there isn’t really.

A thing I think people don’t consider is that we know what has happened so it is a lot more clear what changes you could cause by going to the past but unfortunately future is completely unknowable so any changes we make are very abstract
