Typical orange site behavior but worth showing. There’s a couple commenters there trying to fight against Silicon CHUD consensus but the submission got flagged and removed from the front page

Would really like to hear what this person thinks the “Palestinian” side and “Israeli” side was 10,000 years ago in the Levantine.

    ‘Complexity’ is an illusion.

That is the ultimate “dumb guy’s idea of a smart idea”.

I hate this dumb shit. The idea that there’s some ancient primal death battle between Jewish people and Arabs or whoever was around at the time in the Levant is awful, very effective historical revisionism. 1st century Hebrews/Jews were forced in to Exile by the fucking Romans! THE ROMANS! Who don’t exist anymore! Islam, at least on paper, explicitly requires that Jewish people be respected, protected, and given a degree of legal autonomy under Muslim rule (Definitely not respected by many governments throughout history, but others took it seriously).

Pretty much all modern Israelis descend from (or are themselves) very recent European settlers with specific racial features, and not from some super ancient tribe that has maintained ‘racial purity’ for two millenia (as if that confers the right to someone else’s home anyway).

Word. Genetics and ethnicity in Judaism is a whole thing and part of what makes it difficult to readily define compared to many ethno-religious groups, even diaspora groups. Plus, Tays-Sachs. Plus conversion, and the way modern Judaism differs from other contemporary religions that actively proselytize for converts.

the uncharitable reading is that he thinks that civilization didn’t exist there until britain arrived, but i know hackernewses and i know that “this conflict has been going on for millennia” is the perfect take for a guy who knows zero history trying to pretend that he knows all the history.

It’s a very effective propaganda narrative to hide and de-legitimize political conflict. It’s almost never just religion, and often not about religion at all. Another example is the war between the IRA and the British, aka the Troubles, which has very effectively been cast as sectarian religious violence in order to hide the political and liberatory nature of the struggle, and also to disguise that a highly disproportionate amount of the killing was done by British Loyalists and their assorted assassins and hatchetmen. If people understood and examined the political aspect they might start to ask why the British military and British intelligence hired so many fucking neo-nazis to carry out massacres.

One of the best examples of this is that especially awful West Wing 9/11 special, in which they outright say that Arabs are predisposed to evil and not really belonging there because a Bible story in which a king iirc David fucked a servant cause his wife couldn’t conceive, and so the first lady flat out says “and that bastard kid is the ancestor of all Arabs”,

Same episode has someone bring up the IRA and one of the dickhead characters is like “nuh uh it didnt work cause there are still protestants in ireland” which is a line Sorkin repeats again later when talking about Palestine, like this is what liberals truly believe, that it was all about removing all Protestants, and not centuries of oppression? Wolfe Tone is the father of Republicanism, he was a Protestant dammit.

Same goes for the HOI4 mod TNO, which has its alternate history german victory mean that the Troubles happen but with the sides “reversed” and shit like “you are now entering free Londonderry” which is the most idiotic shit. You cannot pallet swap centuries of oppression and the destruction of local names being a sore issue etc, especially not when in your universe this only began 20 years ago. It means nothing, it all plays like a child just find and replaced Catholic and Protestant with no understanding of what they are talking about.

At least this simpleton realizes their half-baked stupid opinion is limited to people as stupid as they are
