Quite a long video by People Make Games where numerous parties involved in the controversy surrounding the game and company are interviewed as an attempt to shed light into the whole story. I’ve watched the entire thing and I’m not sure what to think, really.

It sucks that Kurvitz got his IP and world pulled away from his grasp, but it also sucks that he doesn’t take any responsibility for his past actions and mistreatment of (former) colleagues.

Overall, it’s probably still safe to assume that the higher-ups fucked the three over overall, but I guess at least Kurvitz is not innocent either. Not in the same league, of course, but just kinda sucky that he shies away from taking a stance in the face of all these allegations of misconduct.

You should also watch the 41st Precinct interview with Martin Luiga, and Argo Tuulik in three parts [1, 2, 3], as well as the “Zaum - The Inside Story” in two parts [1, 2] if you want a grasp on the whole story. I still dream of him getting an episode with Kurvitz one day, but Luiga and Tuulik being the two co-creators of Elysium and both players from his tabletop sessions I consider these episodes essential listening.

Thank you, I’ll check them out. I’m in a bit of a DE rabbit hole right now, so all the content I’m currently watching on YouTube is about the game. Really wanna get a good grasp of what’s happened and happening with the game

The actual interviews (for the Human Can Opener podcast) are great insights into both the making of the game, and the creation of the world by Kurvitz et al growing up. Really really good discussions and insights.

Zaum - The Inside Story focuses more on the time after Disco was released.

Similar to the situation with unknown worlds and Subnautica 2.

I will always side with the workers and not the suits in their parent company.
