Because they have fragile identities based around being the good guys and have never once encountered anything that rejects western imperialism
They’re used to their enemies either buckling or getting so mad they say a slur. When that doesn’t happen they need psychic soothing in the form of fellow liberals telling them that in fact China is the enemy of all humanity
