Typical US exceptionalism, they claim they won’t provide China access to AI tech because it can have military uses, however they want access to China’s rare earth even though it’s a necessary input for their military industry. This exceptionalism is so ingrained in US propaganda they aren’t even able to grasp the logical contradictions in their argument.

Because it’s not a logical contradiction. When one side is “The Good Guys™” and the other side “The Bad Guys™”, of course “The Good Guys™” have a right to get everything they need to make weapons and “The Bad Guys™” don’t. Trying to deny “The Good Guys™” their weapons just proves that you are a “Bad Guy™” and justifies why you should not be getting weapons. It’s a logical argument so long as you axiomatically accept the premise that one side is ontologically Good and the other Evil.
I do accept the premise but I don’t see how keeping AI from the good guys or giving rare earth to the bad guys helps anyone 😂
Sadly the US is an old master at front companies and re-routing logistics. They bought all that titanium from the USSR for their SR-71 and other advanced warplane projects through an elaborate network of front companies. So it will mildly increase costs but not stop the US from getting what it wants if any significant amount at all is made available to western companies.
