Hi all, as you may have heard, this instance is unfortunately shutting down at the end of the month. As far as I know, this is the only Lemmy foraging community, so I’d like to keep it going elsewhere if possible.
Does anyone know of or wish to create another foraging community?
If not, I’d be happy to make one on slrpnk.net. There used to be one but I think it was closed due to mod inactivity.
Slrpnk sounds appropriate. Another tangentially related is Mander, the science focused Lemmy.

Would you want to make a new one and be a mod? I don’t want to create another account and I’ve heard moderation is problematic if you are on another instance.
If not, I’ll make one on my instance, but mander seemed to have the most support.
I’m gladly help moderate, but I’m currently in no position to run a community. It would be a disservice to us.
I think Solarpunk is a perfectly cromulent instance for foraging.

I encourage you to check out mander.xyz. That’s the most natural-sciency instance I have come across. I think this community would fit right in there.
Status update: Does anyone on mander.xyz want to create the new community? If not, then it looks like @LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net will proceed to create one on slrpnk.net.

Personally, I would move to a random instance rather than slrpnk. Not because it’s a bad instance but because I think it’s a bad idea to bundle all communities for a topic in just place. If slrpnk shuts down one day as well, a big chunk of environment related Lemmy would be gone. Following the idea of the Fediverse, it would be more failsafe to spread similar topics as wide as possible.
