People that like zooming around all hours of the night are jerks and I’m not afraid to say it!

You heard me! Stop zooming! Drive the speed limit and stop leaving tire marks on my lawn!

Gosh dang zoomers.

Okay I do want someone to do a meta study about why everyone is suddenly the worst driver. My two guesses are COVID and an increase in delivery drivers due to the ever expanding gig economy but I don’t have any way to know. I also want to have a struggle session about if it’s okay for gig drivers to drive and park like absolute madmen or not because on one side they’re trying to pay their bills but on the other side they’re killing people by driving the way they do

      COVID

this is a big part of it, yeah. COVID infection has a chance to cause long-term brain damage, every repeat infection raises those chances, and cyclical reinfection almost guarantees brain damage. and of course, it’s the kind of brain damage which impairs both cognitive ability and reaction time (making drivers objectively worse) and reduces empathy (which makes drivers (bigger) assholes).

I also want this study but delivery drivers, including things like uber eats, seem to be far too small a percentage of drivers to explain why it is pandemonium out there. It’s more of a logical trend, that has happened for a long while, where drivers aren’t actually at fault for anything, ever.

I also want to have a struggle session about if it’s okay for gig drivers to drive and park like absolute madmen or not because on one side they’re trying to pay their bills but on the other side they’re killing people by driving the way they do

It is not, no. Removed from individual choices, this is surrendering public space to the Uber Company for Uber eats, who gets all the profits and cares exactly 0% about their drivers. The solution to delivery drivers driving or parking badly is not to just let them do that, endangering everyone else. Least of not because that includes other delivery drivers on the ever more prominent e-bicycles, who also get fucked by that.
