The Supreme Court has blocked an order for the Trump administration to return to work thousands of federal employees who were let go in mass firings aimed at dramatically downsizing the federal government.
“The US separation of powers, a cornerstone of the Constitution, divides governmental authority into three distinct branches – legislative, executive, and judicial – with each branch having specific powers and responsibilities, preventing any one branch from becoming too powerful”
If the president is responsible for appointing judges, then the judiciary is not and never was a separate power. While it required a rather unlikely series of deaths and retirements, in close proximity, the judiciary is under trump’s control because he has control of the supreme Court having appointed several.
He nominated the judges and the Senate has to approve them. The Senate is supposed to refuse to confirm unsuitable nominees. That is where the system has been falling down for decades now. The Executive branch is not supposed to have a rubber-stamp Senate. The founding fathers didn’t imagine that the Senate would be dominated by a massive group of boot-lickers who, rather than serving their constituents, serve only the interests of the President.
