I love playing Modded Minecraft, but the movie was pretty awful. The writing was garbage and acting pretty bad. The set designs and creatures were done fairly well though. Kids will enjoy the movie, but adults will certainly notice the movie’s short-comings.

This morning my COMM professor declared she saw it with her kids and it was a masterpiece, despite not having played Minecraft and “not caring that much for Jack Black”

Edit: since this post I’ve gone and seen the movie with some friends. While it’s not gonna be an award winner for their acting, it was still a really fun movie to watch.

I’m glad I saw it in theaters. There was a handful of older kids (like 15 ish) in the back having an absolute blast and the vibe was electric. The movie got a good laugh out of us a number of times. I saw it mentioned that Jack Black was “phoning it in” but I thought he did an amazing job. I went into this movie fully expecting to watch a shit show but was pleasantly surprised. Overall I’d absolutely recommend anyone to go and see it while it’s still in theaters

The people going in the first week are not going to give a shit wether it gets bad review. In fact, they’re probably doing everything they can to not see any reviews at all. The first week is only ever a measure of how effective the movie was advertised. In this case, the movie has been advertised for nearly 16 years. So they didn’t actually have to do much to pull people in.

Box office is super useless for determining how good a movie actually is.

Went to see it last night. Cinema had about 30 people in it, mostly young people (15-25)… I didn’t hear one audible laugh the whole movie, maybe a couple of chuckles. After the movie, most people leaving were saying how awesome it was… I spent most of the movie hoping my recliner would malfunction and crush me to death

But did you hear them force air out of their nose loudly?

I went into it not expecting anything great but I laughed several times. More importantly the kids loved it.
