I’m not entirely sure it wasn’t the other way around.

He probably knew some charges were coming years ago, and started adapting his output accordingly.

Oh for sure. He’s been soft-pedaling his right-wing transformation ever since the initial allegations went public years ago. The hard turn recently is probably exactly as you say, he knew charges were coming.

the suddenly “baptism” was obvious, because he mustve knew charges were going to be brought against him eventually

It doesn’t take much calculating at all. It’s just easy to convince right-wing audiences that sexual misconduct allegations are all a conspiracy by the Deep StateTM to silence them. It’s a pretty basic grift.

So it goes something like this:

    • Man rapes
    • Man gets away with it for a while
    • Man gets charged for it
    • Man joins the far-right

The moment someone starts going all “anti-woke” you know they’ve got something to hide and they are trying to get acquainted with the pardon-dealing industry.

Yeah. Forcing himself on women was entirely consistent with his public persona, but shifting hard right just to seek cover makes it so much scummier.

Pardon dealing industry? In the UK?

I’m pretty sure only 4 pardons have been given in the last 25 years. 1 was posthumous (Turing) and the other 3 were given to convicts who saved people’s lives while incarcerated.

I don’t think being anti-woke is going to help anyone get a pardon in the UK.

I do think it’s a grift, just not convinced it’s a grift for a Royal Prerogative of Mercy.

I don’t mean in the UK. He probably has done some of that in the US too.

He could flee and seek political asylum or something. The US has extradition treaties with the UK since 2003, but they are pretty much ignoring all laws and treaties anyway.

This explains his sudden turn to Christianity last year. He’s going to try the “God forgave me” defense.

Well, I’ve seen this coming for a while now, but I must admit, I actually liked him once upon a time. His comedy specials weren’t just funny, they made you think about the abstract ideas of religion and consciousness. He was like a handsome rockstar comedian, the sort of person I wish I could be. Smart, sexy, cool, interesting. Hell, when I got sober from alcohol, reading his book that re-imagined the twelve steps into something less religious actually helped.

But then I heard the rumors, and it kind of fit with the image he gave himself. And then he made that abrupt turn into right-wing conspiracy and that all but confirmed it. To be honest I thought he’d already been charged with something and had just celebrity-ed his way out of it. Sucks, man.

I loved Dennis Miller back in the '80s, before he made his heel turn into a right-wing douche. In retrospect, I realize I actually just liked the SNL writers coupled with his snarky delivery.

Dennis Miller was a great writer himself, and wrote all of the Weekend Update stuff that he did, and a bunch of sketches. It’s ok to say he was once great at what he did, because he was. But I would recommend going back and watching Dennis Miller Live on HBO. I went back and re-watched it during the pandemic, and it’s pure Libertarian garbage wrapped up in snarky wit and big words. So he’s always been kind of a right-leaning douche, but 9/11 broke his brain and he dropped all the Libertarian pretense.

Hey, help is help, don’t let his failings mean that your success is somehow tarnished. I get the sentiment as well. He was a little over the top for my taste but the reboot of Arthus he did still ranks pretty high on my list.
