Having humor about something doesn’t mean not taking it seriously

    Relevant evergreen post from AOC

Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is it’s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism.

We have to sustain each other. Making joy isn’t denial, it’s how we will survive

Not sure if she will, but she could now actually do that in 2028. She just now reached the minimum age to run for president (35)

She actually could have done so this time around, age-wise: being born on October 13th, she turned 35 before election day.

Probably would have won too, if the Dem leadership would have encouraged her to run rather than machinegunning themselves and thus the country in the foot 😮‍💨

I don’t think she would have won. She’s surprisingly unknown to the voters who don’t really follow politics.

She could’ve become known though. They run so many ads it’s impossible not to know the candidate. If they could’ve gotten off their assess and ran AOC from the beginning instead of Biden this last election i think she’d have had a chance.

I assumed we were just talking about the decision to run Harris but I guess nobody said that!

If we’re talking about as the INITIAL candidate, I wholly agree with you. That would have been plenty of time for her to campaign and gather support. I think she would have done very well because the issues she fights for were VERY relevant last year. She’s not perfect but she’s the closest thing to the “voice of the people” next to Sanders. I’ll bet she would have even picked up more votes from center and right.

The biggest mistake the Democrats made wasn’t running Harris, it was running Biden. Even considering how he fumbled some things (Gaza for one), he was a decent president… But everyone knew he was too old for it.

Outcome aside, I’m kind of glad she didn’t. I think she’d really shine on the campaign trail if she had the time to explain WHY X, Y, and Z are good. Too many people don’t know who she is or what she stands for - and too many people have only been exposed to her through unflattering pictures in memes

When it reaches a point where your opposition is belligerent to grievance, mockery is the best option.
