If there’s no other way, what else can I use?English1·2 months agoIf you can’t pull a cable and are dependant on wi-fi, but still want a cable at the end point, buy a wi-fi bridge. You can see it as a switch that you can connect your stuff to with cables, but the connection between the bridge and the router/access point will be wireless, wi-fi.
Your computers won’t know they are using a wireless connection.
Alternatively, if you have an extra, unused ethernet interface on a computer that is already connected to the internet, you can share internet through that interface, making your computer a bridge.
This can be accomplished with an android phone and a usb ethernet adapter too. Though you might want a usb hub or split cable for charging.
Should also be easy to acomplish on windows. At least it was on windows 7, when I last used it.
xePBMg9@lemmynsfw.comto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How can I create a Lemmy instance without coding or the use of Ethernet/router wiring?English3·2 months agoGet a Raspberry Pi. Newer models have wi-fi. Then you can host all kind of stuff. As long as it is for your own use, you don’t need that much computing power. As far as software is concerned, the type of physical connection doesn’t matter. Wi-fi stability can be excellent or it can be super frustrating. Depending on your circumstance.
Get one and try it. Learn by doing.
xePBMg9@lemmynsfw.comto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do people insist on not answering ALL the questions in an email or text message?English21·3 months agoThe reader might think that your questions are overlaping, making adressing every question redundant. You might want clarity. The reader thinks you can figure it out based on their one answer. They don’t want to spend the time to confirm that which you already have the tools to get to yourself.
xePBMg9@lemmynsfw.comto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do animals think we're cute?English9·3 months agoI read something about some resarchers looking at what goes on in the brains of elephants when interracring with humans. They concluded that it was similar to the reaction when humans encounter cute things. Was a really long time since i read that. So take it with many salts.
xePBMg9@lemmynsfw.comto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How can I confirm evolution is real?English1·3 months agoBuy a microscope and look at some bacteria. They evolve fast, in real time, by the same principles other living organisma do.
Science is the process of observing, puting forth hypothesis based on observation and then doing your best to disprove that. If you find something that contradicts your hypothesis, you can safely discard that idea and start over. It is the best method humankind has figured out for getting to truths about what we see around us. If you want absolute proofs, look no further than maths. In the real world, we do the best we can with science. Religion does not fulfill the same role as science do. Religion is not even close to the same concept as science. Religion is more akin to fictional works, like Tolkiens, lord of the rings. Religion makes claims that can neither be proven, nor disproven; which is completely useless for learning anything.
Science is useful in that it makes prediction that allow us to make all the technology around us. Maybe the most useful thing; it tells us what the fundamental limits to what we can do is.
Religion provides no such utility, other than maybe a social community. But I would argue that a board game club can do the same.
Science dominates our society so much, just becauce of it’s usefullness. There is an evolutionary aspect to science itself, right there. The groups that rejects science falls behind, those that embrace it prosper. The stronger prevails, thus science.
Imagine what tribes are likely to get wiped out; the technologically advanced ones or the regressive ones.

Cold liquids have greater capacity for dissolving gasses. It is less prone to release boubles. Use an ice machine for your ice. Smooth ice has fewer nucleation points for the co2 boubles to form. Cold, slow and smooth. Expect to loose some carbonation. In the cases i have very rugged ice from the freezer, i sprinkle some soda or water on them to melt the outer layer before adding my drink slowly.

Probably doen’t apply to everyone, but i feel like intelligent people experience a lot of stress asociated with performing to surrounding expectations. They tend to be less stressed when hanging around people they don’t need to perform for.
In your case, ask him about it. He might feel perfectly content around you. You might even be a calming presence.
I’d say me and my partner are equals. But I imagine I would have no Issue If they were less intellectually inclined. Or more for that matter.

You lack the ability to imagine future issues for yourself. Work on this. Cause when those rights are gone, they are not comming back. Pay attention, avoid future pain.
If you can’t feel empathy you might be a psychopath or narcisist. As far as I understand, that is a hard thing to live with. Tough luck.
