I have heard good things about deepl as well. To your other point, Wikisource has a color-coded status for all pages (red - not proofread, yellow - proofread by 1 person, green - validated by another person). So some kind of status indicator like that could be good to show whether a translation has been checked or not.
weird online activism where people sit in their caves and scream at the shadows in front of them
It does get overwhelming when there are so many angry people on the internet having intense arguments about relatively trivial things and it seems like everything is bad, harmful, or offensive from some angle to someone. I basically try to not take everything on the internet personally. If there’s someone online hating on e.g. a tv show that I like, I’m free to just disagree and keep enjoying it. If I’m not judging people for trivial things, then I don’t have to worry about other people judging me for trivial things. I mean they might still judge but I don’t have to care.
if you’re gonna use machine translation, I would suggest using something that is meant for translation rather than ChatGPT, which may just be hallucinating (e.g., this HN thread)
the thing is, the US has pretty much always been a two-party state. after a term or two the other party will regain power, that’s just the way it is. if the other guy winning will result in “catastrophe”, what’s the solution then? a one-party state? 🤔
wonder how big a deal the ⭐ → ❤️ thing will be. people were attached to the stars on old Twitter too. hopefully they can eventually come around to full emoji reactions like Misskey etc.
hmm yeah if all your tests are normal, it could be more of a circulation issue - Qigong exercises are really good for that - it’s really easy and even 10 minutes feels great! (note: this is NOT related to the religious cult Falun Gong)
I’ve always been a really “cold” person and I recently found out that was hypothyroidism, so just spreading the word you’re not actually supposed to be freezing all the time and if you are maybe get your thyroid checked
yeah, I know there is more to it, but doesn’t it still ultimately boil down to that? even if “we” is small communities rather than individuals
yeah that headline was phrased weirdly
It seems like anarchism is the trendy replacement for capitalism these days. It fits better with the Western ideal of individualism. And I get it, it would be great if we could all just do whatever we want and not have anyone tell us what to do, but it’s not practical. Like government is gonna be around for the foreseeable future and insisting on anarchism kinda prevents working on a better government
yeah I watch cdrama, I feel like compared to Western media the stories are more interesting, the messaging is more wholesome, and I really like the more subtle romance with plenty left to the imagination
yeah, I don’t like sex scenes either but I’m not really sure why. maybe because it doesn’t seem relatable. it also kinda seems like a cheap gimmick to maintain the audience’s interest, like putting corn syrup in food for no reason. I did once see someone saying that younger people may be jaded from there being so much porn on the internet, and negatively associate movie sex scenes with that, which also makes sense to me.
I think my dad proposed at subway…
when the Quinnipiac poll came out showing Biden at 25% favorability with voters under 35, I saw so many excuses from liberals:
and a few days ago I saw a post from George Takei like, “young people need to learn that sometimes we vote for someone even if we don’t like everything about them” as if he were telling a toddler to eat their peas. why are they so condescending?? and anyway, I did vote for Biden without liking everything about him, but now his issues have become too serious for me to turn a blind eye anymore
I recently started using it. I would say it’s not hard but it is different, so you just have to be someone who’s open to new ideas. If someone gets frustrated and quits as soon as something is not immediately obvious, it’s probably not for them. Sort of like some old people struggle to do basic stuff on computers/smartphones while some are just fine.
having lived in rural maine, yes the nature was beautiful but socially it was pretty depressing and impoverished, but not a lot happens there so an 80-person mass shooting - I’m both really surprised and not very surprised at the same time :/
there was one good game… LarryBoy GBA review
