I’m very glad the channels with our emoji-spamming comrades are open again.
I read your post as well, but was also unsure of what to say. For a conversation like this face-to-face, the most useful thing I can do is to listen.
I’m not sure why others would downvote. In moments like these it’s more important to be supportive and understanding than trying to repress or ignore these thoughts.
I’m sure many others listen and care, but don’t know how to lend support. I hope you’d forgive them for that. I hear you.
Blowback.
I guess I should’ve used the search function a bit more before making this post, lol.
But to be fair the Lemmy search function truly is the dark souls of content discovery.
Not sure how I missed CriticalResist’s blog, that’s getting added to the list. Also appreciate that you’re giving the OPML file, one less step on my side, thanks!
Thanks for sharing! I wasn’t aware of many of these.
Campfires, slowly crackling
Wow, thanks for all the insight! I think in general this is a very good mentality to have, and to pause and really reflect on it before even picking up the pencil as you say.
The focus on actionability is interesting though. Would you not say that some forms of propaganda aren’t necessarily meant to spur action per se, but rather serve as an opener or starter? Maybe I’m not wording this correctly, but it would follow the same concept as the Funnel model. Some forms of media would have large appeal and only serve to push people further down the funnel to be more receptive to other forms of media or propaganda. Or would you consider this a non-effective path that is akin to the sign-holding you mentioned? Or perhaps I am misanalysing this concept.
With the example you gave, the goal is very clear and it’s quite straightforward to break down. I wonder if you have any more examples that are perhaps a bit more modern as well.
What are the main do’s and don’ts of designing effective propaganda?
Putting Genocide Joe in scare quotes. Libs are going fully mask-off in this thread.
Perhaps on foreign policy, but other than that you have the hardline anti-immigration stance in addition to socially conservative policies and subtle yet no-so-subtle climate denialism.
I don’t know what to make of this election. I’m hoping more German members here expand on this.
Homelessness.
That’s strange. But surely you can export the results to a CSV file right? In that case we could just make the charts using Excel/Calc/etc. Is the raw data available publicly anywhere? The ProleWiki Matrix maybe?
I’m not sure how I missed this post, but I’m glad the results are out!
Definitely appreciate the write-up and insights, but why are there no graphs of the results? It would make for a much better reading experience and easier to interpret the results than only reading percentages in text.
I was never really a fan of the way Pixelfed and Loops developed, but could you elaborate on what you mean by “comparing notes on their interactions”?
It is so difficult for people to grasp just how deeply entrenched carnism is as an ideology, to the point that “orphan crushing machine” stories such as this are seen as somehow positive by most.
To clarify, I am not referring to the OP or comments on this post, rather the reception of these types of stories in general, whereas in the case of humans it’s very easy to spot the contradictions.
Interesting. I’ve never seen or heard about anyone eating Koshary with bread (or using their hands for that matter). Usually you’d just eat it with a spoon.
An upside with the dish is that you can control the carb/protein ratio by adjusting the amount of lentils and chickpeas compared to pasta and rice, for example.
Egypt’s national dish, Koshary. Uses lots of pots and pans so make sure you have a few (and probably someone to help you do the dishes).
Also, Egypt’s most popular/commonly consumed dish, Ful Medames (Fava beans).
And, of course, Egyptian-style Falafel.
I hear you, I’ve been in deep bouts of depression since my early teens.
In my case, I started to consistently feel better when I became a part of a community that was doing something. Organising, taking some form of action, and connecting with people who had shared goals and who’ve been through similar struggles as myself.
Over the years I’ve worked on my depression by myself a lot, engaging in hobbies, working out, etc. but the improvements were always temporary. It wasn’t until I started fighting for something with others that I stopped sliding down into the abyss, even through bad days.
It’s just my experience, I hope you can make it out as well.
