The OS that comes preinstalled will always have the largest market share unfortunately. The average person is not going to install a linux iso to a usb and disable bitlocker and whatever else windows adds to make it harder to change the OS. That is before even setting it up and making sure everything works. It helps if you are friends with someone that is into installing operating systems that can help you but not everyone has that friend. The best linux can do is try and keep microsoft in line. Valve has been doing a lot of the heavy lifting in that regard. It is also why user friendly distros are so important. Somebody who thinks emails and the internet is the same thing is not going to go for Arch.

I do think linux needs some tools that automate that sort of thing so the 18 steps becomes like 3. It doesn’t even need to be by the distro itself but scripts made for it. I managed to make a script that does the same thing as robocopy does on windows to replace a certain rundata file for gamemaker 8.1 since it had that glitch that caused the the rundata to become invalid. I did share that script on my magazine in kbin.run and kbin.social unfortunately both are defunct but I could always share it somewhere else or make a community where people ask for help with installing stuff and people make a script for it like /c/makemeascript or something. I will have a look at the affinity suite and see what steps it takes to see if It is something I am skilled enough to automate.

Would games with anticheat work in a windows 10 vm? I am not interested in games that go out of their way to not work in wine but if it works in a vm of windows 10 you might be able to use that for gaming and whatever host os for your web browser emails etc.

Its one of my favourite abandon-ware games. I have been more interested in the campaign so I used the all in one launcher for singleplayer though I could only get 1.06 to work in wine since 1.09 in the launcher made some sort of call to the windows task manager which results in an error. I have used micro 10 in a virtual machine to test things other than bfme2, Using a vm or dual booting is a good option if you want to play bfme2 in multiplayer. I will test it out if I ever feel like playing multiplayer though I imagine most of the players are really good at pvp.

I have been using linux mint for about 5 months and it was great so I had no intention on changing to pop os until recently. While linux mint has the same placement as windows I find pop os to be simple enough design wise that I think it might actually be easier to use than mint and windows.

I don’t mind as long as they don’t make the ads intrusive. If the ads become intrusive I will try nethersx2.

On pc though I still have a ps2 if I wanted to play on the actual hardware. But I do find Emulation is easier to set up no plugging the AV cords into the tv or constantly having to change discs to play different games. I also use Aethersx2 if I want to play ps2 games on android.

They would have to be pretty incompetent to price the ps6 at $700 since they would be ignoring their own history and the fact that low barrier to entry is what made the ps1/ps2 sell so well in the first place. Sony already cracked the code to success in the 90s. If they fail to remember what they have already learned and the base ps5/ps6 goes up in price they should be fired.

Thanks I did do a bit of playstation emulation a few years ago but pcsx2 was a lot less stable back then.

Ps2 at the moment but I have played NES/SNES and ps1.

The first two ratchet and clank games. I also copied the iso for the third game from the disc so I will be playing UYA next. After that I am going to make a copy of Gladiator/Deadlocked and play that.

I am not sure if ps2 is considered retro yet but I find that era to be a good compromise between classic games and the convenience of modern control schemes. the only gameboy games I remember playing was mario and pokemon though I preferred the original 8bit mario games. I also recently found out about a week ago that pcsx2 has its own gameplay record feature which made this video easier than my previous one to make due to not having to use a screen recorder.

When I heard of ps4 emulation I thought it was amazing since I still have not tried emulating ps3 but I remember it use to be only for high end machines. I also assume ps5 emulation will be a thing eventually but I think it will be a while. I am curious how psx3 runs compared to psx2 since pcsx2 lagged when I first used it years ago. But now its runs about the same as the ps1 version. I imagine ps3 is probably more complicated to emulate than ps4 due to the architecture though.

I mostly only emulate playstation games.(pcsx and pcsx2) I did try an NES emulator for a romhack which was nice. Recently I tried Aethersx which is a fork of pcsx2 but for android. A lot has changed since a few years ago I remember pcsx2 lagging alot but now it runs pretty smooth.

we really need to archive archive.org tbh. If there was an open source fediverse alternative that would be great. The hard part would be the amount of storage needed for the whole thing.

It is a pretty wide spectrum as an example I would consider abandonware its own thing in-between downloading and physical backups. Also the funny thing about Yuzu is they would have legally been fine if they used common sense and avoided linking to any roms and just recommended people use their own. There is Suyu which is a fork of Yuzu that wants to avoid the same mistakes Yuzu made.
