Our property is covered with wild raspberry, will black raspberry, and wild blackberry cane. I picked these this morning. I got about 500 ml (2 c) of berries. I’ve tinned them and will freeze them until I can pick more over the next few days. Then…I’ll make black raspberry jam!

Maybe.

I don’t know.

My wife normally makes jam but she’s away for the weeks. Maybe I’ll give it a go.

The way to tell them apart, weirdly enough is from what happens when you pull the berries off the stem.

With a raspberry the plug pulls out, leaving a hole

With a blackberry, the plug stays inn, snapping at the stalk.

Black raspberries are raspberries. They have a core that comes out. Blackberries are not raspberries. They have a solid core that you can’t remove. Blackberries are also normally much bigger than raspberries.

Thanks! I really like them. I’m covered in scratches and itchy but it is worth it.

I’ve never made jam before but I’m reading recipes and it seems like something I could do. If it works I’ll post a picture here.

No. I dropped my cup and spilled a few so they were a bit dirty. I gave them a good wash I’ll cold, fresh water and dumped them out on a towel. The recipes I’ve read don’t say anything about salt water. What does that do?

Maggots? In Raspberries? Are you thinking of fruit fly larvae? I rinsed the berries in cold water to remove anything loose. I’m going to add a bunch of sugar then boil them until they turn into jam. The fruit fly larvae will taste like raspberry jam.
