That’s the first time I heard of that particular moment; sounds like the flipside of that “being a sex pest is sex positivity” shit that Louis CK and Joss Whedon were pushing on set.

There was a time Ricci refused to a scene like the director wanted to which is telling because she’s done plenty of sex scenes. The director threatened to sue her but she stood her ground.

There’s this weird fucked up puritan/pornbrain hybrid mentality that sees any actor that got naked on set as having surrendered the right to ever say no to doing le sexy sex scenes in the future.

Similarly, entire careers have sunk in the past because someone who was “le sexy” got naked and afterward was suddenly not seen as tantalizing enough or whatever.

Halle Berry’s career took a dive after Swordfish, for example.

Eugh. I found out one of the sand snakes was put in a nude scene either literally the day she turned eighteen or the day after. She was an adult, she had the right to do that, but the directors? Are you fucking serious? I can’t believe anyone was willing to work with them after that. Idk, maybe the actress enthusiastically agreed to the idea, but ffs give the woman time to recover from her birthday hangover!

It’s like those old “countdown timers” webpages people used to maintain counting down until the Olsen twins were legally adults or something. Just 1 - what the fuck? And 2 - why the fuck was that acceptable?

I still have ugly internet fights at times over that; some people think “sex positivity” means sex pestery and being a creep no longer conceptually exists.

Yeah. The Madonna/Whore thing runs extremely, extremely deep. Once you’re “tainted” you’re tainted forever.

It’s something I really admire about Miley Cyrus - as soon as she was out from under Disney’s thumb she got a flamethrower, burned down her squeaky clean Hannah Montana character, and never apologized.

Angelina Jolie somehow escaped that terrible stigma by getting naked early and then just owning it and continuing on. Not sure how much of that was luck and how much of that was fighting like hell.

Same deal with Monica Belluci, but she’s not exactly Burgerland focused.
