I really think Ukraine is targeting certain communities for conscription so they can get rid of them if they die on the front. That’s why they targeted these queers, and that’s why they targeted Russian speaking Ukrainians

Here’s an update - at today’s pride event pigs actually set up a checkpoint outside and check IDs and military documents of everyone trying to get in. You are very correct. They readily jumped on this opportunity to go back twenty years in how blatant they are in their oppression of queer people.

Gay glorification, is the cornerstone of US globalism. With women, minorities, etc… not just gays.

    Bro I fucking wish

I feel like the US (and the West in general) does a really good job covering up their true motives behind the veil of “protecting/projecting human rights (women, lgbt+, etc.)” so good that people fall for it and make comments like that, which sucks because we’re getting thrown under the bus…

In half a country abortions are borderline or actually illegal, and in the ever growing number of states trans people are deprived of healthcare and human dignity. Idk what veil they could hide behind at this point.

It’s a very shitty veil, but it seems to be working nonetheless considering people defend the genocide in Palestine and the war against Russia because of homophobia.

Well they do use relatively niche issues that appeal to bourgeois liberals to excuse and justify their atrocities. A huge talking point for example is justifying genocide based on spreading a perception of homophobia amongst Palestinian society.

Good ole reddit-logo. /r/UkraineRussiaReport is a mixed bag ideologically. It’s the most neutral of the subreddits covering the war and there’s generally a leftist anti-imperialist/anti-NATO perspective doing well in the comments. But reddit in general is such a reactionary place that you get shit like this in a place that isn’t explicitly leftist.

Yeah, I was honestly surprised to see people with “Pro Russia*” next to their user being responded to with a lack of vitriol. Really sucks to see the LGBTQ+ community (and other minorities mentioned by commenters) catching strays…

The user tags can be misleading and used ironically, especially when there’s an asterisk where they’re signalling support for the country and not its leadership, but it’s generally the only place where NAFO sadists can’t trumpet the war. When combat footage is posted the dominant message is “this is a pointless waste of life” no matter who is dying, with a realistic outlook on Ukrainian prospects and critical perspective toward both leaders. It has a higher volume of posts than here and I like to follow all aspects of the war, but it really shows why Lemmy is inherently better.

shrug-outta-hecks I’m part of one of those instances and we’re defederated from the worst of the liberals. If other instances are still federated with them, that’s their choice and the obvious consequence is having to interact with social fascists cheerleading every war they can see as White Vs Evil. Once you do blacklist them it’s pretty great.

I don’t believe Reddit’s reactionary culture is natural. Board members being on the Atlantic council for example can influence the zeitgeist there. I don’t see how Lemmy could be somehow immune to such influence steering.
