I just broke my rule and preordered Armored Core VI, 23 hours before release. It’s also the first full price $60 game i’ve bought in probably ten years. I’m getting the shame and loathing out of the way rn so i can enjoy tomorrow think-about-it

Jeez I remember when AC was just this dinky lil clunker mech game that had billions of sequels over the span of the ps1/2/3/psp. Wild how now it’s getting mainstream attention thanks to Soulslikes.

I only preorder things that I’m going to play no matter what. Like, I would’ve bought Tears of the Kingdom even if it was dogshit. I can’t not play it!

I will pick up Starfield. At worst its gonna be Fallout 4 in space …which would be enough to entertain me for 50-60h. Obviously I hope its great but even at its worst its gonna be a bethesda game and Im sucker for them.

I waited a year on Skyrim for the modders to fix the game. Same with fallout4. Starfield looks so generic, and Todd has been working so hard to fuck up the modding scene with monetization schemes, i’m going to sit this one out for at least a year. Plus it sounds like it’s still gamebryo and oh my god they need to kill that abomination of an engine and start using unreal or something.

I was asking myself if I was going to make this or BG3 my yearly game purchase, but I think this one will be more likely. Really fucking expensive where I live though, so I’ll have to wait until next month. After the absolute masterpiece that is Elden Ring, I think I’m a certified Fromsoft guy. It was my first game from them, and now I get why their games are so appreciated. They simply don’t miss.

They announced an overhaul of the cop system (along with implementing Max Tac to fight players) in the patch next month dropping with the DLC. Problem is that they didn’t make clear what content is paid (DLC) and which content is free (patch). My gut feeling is that a cop system overhaul is so fundamental it has to be free, buy I don’t bet against CDPR fumbling the ball these days.

Also, lmao at Hexbear users wanting cops in any context.

Right so it MIGHT be what I expected it to be at launch, ish.

The problem I had was that I was expecting a Rockstar quality open world game and it didn’t even meet their standards for like, 15 years ago. Let alone the standards RDR2 has now set, the real working systems of loggers cutting down forests, loading them on trains is wild, not a looping animation like you’d expect, real working shit is absolutely everywhere it blows me away.

Yeah CDPR marketed and sold the game as something it really wasn’t. They painted themselves into a corner about how it was going to be this amazing RPG experience but in reality it was at best an open world shooter with like 3 branching endings.

I hope Rockstar set new standards again when GTA eventually happens. If it’s on par/better than RDR2 but in an open world city game with cars and traffic they’re really going to be in a league of their own. 2077 failed to meet GTA3 standards of basic open world city functionality, very pretty but more of a diorama than a sandbox. I feel like I’m running around a looping movie scene that has no reaction to me whatsoever rather than a participant in a world of systems, it’s very jarring. It worked for cdpr in Witcher 3 because small villages don’t have many different things people might be doing and the fantasy setting allows you to suspend disbelief much more, but in a city you have various expectations of how cities work and how they should react in any given scenario.

I have all XBC games on backlog lol! I own them all but it’s impossible to find time right now to play any of them.

I am trying to play shorter games that I can just pick up and play in small bursts for now. So my current backlog is Hollow Knight(yet again), Ori and the Will of the Wisp, Ender Lilies, and I think that’s it. But that is my current backlog. No comment on how many backlogs I flat out scrapped lol

Imo the no pre-order rule doesn’t need to apply to Steam. Their refund policy is so generous that if the game turns out to be broken and horrible you can just get a refund.

They’ll basically give you a refund for any reason within 2 hours of gametime, and often even after that with a good reason. I got a refund on one game after 2 hours because I found out it gave me motion sickness after a long session.

I think it’s actually the EU’s refund policy, and Steam was forced to do it if they wanted to keep doing business there.

I’ve deffo refunded games bc it took two hours to get the controls set up, make a character, and then I still hadn’t gotten through the tutorial.
