It’s a single player Action RPG, not an FPS. The best way to play it is with a controller. On a PC and with tons of mods, of course.

you shoot mainly in first person, it is a first person shooter “FPS”. A game doesn’t need to be exclusively an FPS to be an FPS

First person shooter is a genre, not the mere presence of first person shooting. First person shooters like for example Call of Duty have some RPG aspects, but they’re not RPGs either.

At most, I’ll agree with “RPG with FPS elements”, though even THAT is a bit misleading since the combat system doesn’t function in ways very similar to that of an FPS once you scratch the surface.

so you’re gatekeeping the descriptive “genre” of First Person Shooter, and in whatever definition you have you exclude all the games that don’t mainly focus on first person shooting, despite the fact that first person shooting is one of the most common ways to progress in the game?

            That’s just silly

also user defined tags on steam, since the definitions of what fits or doesn’t fit a certain genre depends entirely on the audience’s opinion - go ahead disagree with the leading opinion

so you’re gatekeeping the descriptive “genre” of First Person Shooter

Other way around: I’m not letting you smear my beloved RPG by incorrectly labeling it an FPS lol

and in whatever definition you have you exclude all the games that don’t mainly focus on first person shooting,

You know what a genre is, right? Would you call the Horizon and Assassins Creed games platformers? They involve platforms, after all 🙄

despite the fact that first person shooting is one of the most common ways to progress in the game?

It isn’t, though. One of the things that makes it a better game (in my subjective opinion) than for example the Diablo games is that there’s tons of other ways to progress than just shooting everything.

the definitions of what fits or doesn’t fit a certain genre depends entirely on the audience’s opinion

Nope. People are often objectively wrong about things.

go ahead disagree with the leading opinion

Thanks for the permission to keep not having my opinions determined by the frequently ignorant masses, I guess. Am I also allowed to keep refraining from saying “literally” when what I actually mean is “figuratively”?

most common way” man, did you even read the words I wrote?

and ah yes “objectively wrong” about video game genres, suuuuure

anyway, this conversation has been incredibly stupid, and your oddly strong opinion about what is and isn’t an FPS is not even based on any facts. Fallout:NV does indeed allow you to shoot at things from the first person perspective, and however small part of the game it might be for you, the fact you can do that, does make it, in part, a first person shooter - whether you like it or not. And if somebody doesn’t like first person shooters, there’s a high likelihood they won’t enjoy modern Fallout games either. this said I’m out, I’ve got better things to do than arguing about “objectivity” in definitions of video game genres lmao

I mean, it’s an FPS as well as an RPG. Unless you’re going for a melee build, a Mouse is still going to be more comfortable for Guns or Energy Weapons builds.

…how? It’s a game, that you play, with a first person perspective, and shoot guns. Unless you only use VATS, a mouse is going to be more comfortable for most people, myself definitely included.

I don’t use V.A.T.S. at all; never have. Getting a decent gun early game and going for headshots has served me well.

Not everyone considers “sitting upright or hunched over at a desk as if working” the most comfortable position to game in and it’s not like you need the extra precision of the mouse to enjoy a story-driven RPG like you do when playing a competitive FPS that’s only about precision and reaction time.

Not everyone considers controllers to be more comfortable for shooters than Mouse and Keyboard. New Vegas is a fantastic RPG, but the combat is that of an FPS. Maybe if I was doing a bunch of non-combat quests I would agree, but as someone who has played thousands of hours both ways, I prefer mouse and keyboard pretty greatly.

You can have your own preference, I think it’s a bit strange to call mine “wrong.”

Aww yea! I never played that one and the show has inspired me to get back into the universe, so I picked up FNV ultimate.

It was a bit dated at first, so I researched modding and got those graphics in a much better place, along with a ton of bug fixes.

Now to try my hand at Caravan…

You absolutely made the right call. Fallout is apparently at its best when Bethesda isn’t fully calling the shots. Apart from the original isometric games, that’s (in my opinion) the gem of the series.

Nobody hates Fallout more than Fallout fans, haha.

The biggest thing for me is that New Vegas is both a rushed mess and the highest peak the series had reached, meaning a better Fallout game is both possible and yet will probably never happen.

Here’s to hoping Fallout: London is good!

All you need to do is get 2 of the 3 piles to be a higher number than the other guy’s and you win. It’s actually not that fun once you actually know the rules and it becomes brain-dead easy against the NPCs. Gwent is a little better. But Tetra Master is the GOAT.

It’s basically blackjack, but 21-26, and must be higher than your opponent’s “caravan.” Kings double values, jacks remove cards, and queens and jokers are less relevant.

Plus, you have to only increase or decrease unless special conditions are met, like having the same suit or a queen.

It’s actually really easy to get the hang of and make a ton of caps before you hit New Vegas, even without a Luck build.

I appreciate it man. Yes, I followed a video that primarily patched for capacity and bug fixes. It took a good couple hours of work just for that (Vortex is badass by the way). That was the foundation that would allow for the huge amount of graphics upgrades. I’ve played a good dozen hours now without a single crash/bug.

Holy shit… An old Medion laptop in the wild! I got one of those at Aldi in the UK about… I dunno, 20 years ago? A long time ago. 4 years in, the cooler packed in and it started overheating. They RMA’d it and fitted a whole new cooler and motherboard.

The shape looks the same to me, too… Nice little laptop.
