Letting the certificate expire for a joke was not okay.

I totally realize most people are going to disagree with me here but I feel compelled to say that letting it expire for a joke wasn’t a very kind thing to do. We have seen TONS of posts from terminally online populations talking about how this site is a source of support and humor in a dark time. Irony and dirtbagism aside, taking away that support without warning was not okay.

You probably say, let people touch some grass, but how are we wretched souls of this hellsite supposed to recognize grass without looking up the emoji on hexbear? touch-grass I would probably stumble into a mound of AstroTurf™ and think: “This is it.”

You can say I’m being silly, or humorless or reactionary. Whatever. I love the show and I love this community. But sometimes I come home after dealing with spotty wi-fi and our nightmare reality all day, and this site is one of many things that make me feel better. It wasn’t a good feeling to find this site was inaccessible for the sake of irony. Maybe that’s laughable or pathetic. But for me, it’s true.

Wait, so the expiration was planned beforehand as a joke?

This is copypasta from the old Chapo sub from someone angry about the mods closing the sub down for a day as a joke.

We should reenable SSL 3.0 and above and RC4 as an available cipher for comrades with old computers

gif emoji nerd ajeitando óculos Umm actually, best practice is to enable HSTS so the entire website basically crashes for everyone when this happens because the security of the connection is no longer guaranteed by PKI
