I find it hilarious that people say China is “erasing” Uyghur culture and that’s genocide. But Uyghur people still speak their native language, practice their traditional religion, and have state sponsored cultural events according to their own traditions.

But then you study the history of nation building in the west and like… in my country it was literally illegal to speak any language other than the “official” language. People were literally arrested if anyone heard them speak their mother-tongue. They were arrested if they were anything but catholics. They were arrested if they celebrated any cultural events not in accordance to “national identity”. This shit happened in Germany, Italy, Spain… Was all that genocide?

they accuse china of genocide because that’s what they’d be doing to the uyghurs if they ran china. it’s all projection.

As always… The way China treats all its ethnic minorities, the US or Germany would never… China spends millions building Buddhist temples, teaching Mandarin, giving vocational training, subsidising cultural events like festivals etc. Imagine Germany building huge mosques and subsiding Eid with millions of euros lol

Raphael Lemkin who coined the term genocide would’ve classified it that way, but many of the original signatories of the genocide convention where actively carrying out cultural genocide at the time and so it was removed from the legal definition.
