Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!
Anyone can make the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!
Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.
So, how’s it going?
Scheduled Downtime tonight for any night owls, moving to a new hard drive arrray. See: https://lemmy.nz/post/6538894
I don’t like featuring posts, it seems rude to force my post to be at the top of the feed of all local users. So hopefully people see it 🙂
Anyone have strong opinions on banana on toast?
Mashed or sliced?
Is cheese a necessity, or an abomination?
Butter or dry?
Not my cup of tea, but a few rellies swear by banana and Pic’s crunchy on toast.
Not a big fan of peanut butter myself, but recently tried some with banana after an edible and it was glorious.
I can see it. I don’t like peanut butter, but if I did I think that combination would work.
My Grandma used to slice banana then coat it with sugar.
Mashed, definitely. With maybe a bit of sugar or stevia sprinkled on top.
Cheese goes on toast with marmite. Or better yet, on muffin splits with marmite.
Mashed? I can chew my food, I don’t need it mashed. I prefer sliced, but my wife likes it mashed. I started asking the kids “do you want it mashed or normal?”

Yum! Cheese and marmite on toast. Cheese and honey on toast. Cheese and jam on toast. Cheese and banana on toast.
I think perhaps cheese makes everything yummy.
It’s not my thing but I can see it working, perhaps if you also add butter + maple syrup, kinda like how bananas go with pancakes?
But definitely no cheese if you’re going for bananas.

You’re missing out. There’s nothing that cheese doesn’t go with.
Wait, what? Banana *and *cheese on toast, together? D:
Absolutely. Toast, buttered. A layer of sliced tasty cheddar, then sliced banana on the top. A delicacy.
In my younger days I would do Peanut butter, banana, cinnamon, maple syrup and put it in a toastie maker or sandwich press. Could add some cooked bacon too :D
I’m not a fan of cooked banana, but that doesn’t sound too far from the childhood campfire food where you stuff a banana with chocolate, wrap in tinfoil and cook on the campfire.
Oh no, that means you wouldn’t like whole deep fried banana fritters! I could go for one of those right now 🤤
The stuffed banana also sounds good
Cooked banana isn’t something I can’t eat, I’ll eat most foods. But I just don’t really enjoy it. Whole deep fried banana doesn’t sound appetising to me, but I like banana pancakes or banana muffins, even though that’s technically cooked banana.
Ah you’re missing out man, if you’re ever in southeast asia get yourself some Pisang Goreng to try. Really nice when freshly cooked!
I’ve spent a bit of time in Malaysia and Indonesia and don’t recall ever seeing it! I think I might like it if the batter:banana ratio is right 🙂
Thinly sliced, 1000%. With brown sugar and butter.
I was going to ask how you’re still married but then I remembered my partner once gave me a cucumber sandwich that turned out to also contain salt and vinegar chips, and we’re still together too.

Haha now we’re talking! Half my relatives love sugar and banana, on sandwiches or just dipping a banana in sugar, eating the end, dip in sugar, repeat.

Salt and vinegar chip sandwiches are a totally normal thing, and commonly added to other ingredients to add some crunch and flavour. So I’m guessing you don’t like cucumber? I don’t like cucumber so I’d also not enjoy a sandwich like that.
I guess the problem is traditionally, cucumber sandwiches aren’t like sandwich sandwiches.
They’re thin white bread with no crusts, very thin cucumber and a delicate flavour. I guess kind of more like an asparagus roll.
If someone hid Chicken Chips in an asparagus roll or a lammington.
I would totally try an asparagus roll that had salt and vinegar chips in it 😆
Chicken chips. It has to clash with the original flavour.
Actually so would I, but I’d still like a heads up first! People can’t just say “here darling I made you an asparagus roll” when it’s really a trojan for chips.
😆
