It simply didn’t occur that it could be. On first watch I didn’t notice the cage so I thought it had to be a breed of dog. Also, I’ve never seen an arctic fox. Is that okay?
Yeah man, my bad. Didn’t mean to sound judgemental. I’m surprised you’ve never seen an Arctic Fox before though, I definitely recommend nature documentaries in general but I also think you should look them up specifically on YouTube. The way they hunt in the snow is really entertaining
Edit: not specifically YouTube, but specifically arctic foxes
Edit edit: I take back my apology. I didn’t word it in a judgmental way at all. And the comment you made that I was replying to implied you already knew what they were. You specifically said it’s behavior is why you didn’t know it was an Arctic Fox. It seems like what I said made you feel dumb so you tried to make me feel bad. It worked until I went back and read our exchange. Nice try though
Edit edit edit: it’s okay to not know stuff. Lack of knowledge does not make you stupid. However, getting defensive because someone knew something you didn’t, definitely does. And this exchange makes me think you’re an asshole.
Frankly, the sentiment is mutual because your first message absolutely read as judgmental and my reasoning makes no difference to your initial attitude. You might notice this whole comment thread has been going on for multiple days and there might possibly be multiple reasons I didn’t know it was a fox to begin with. I realised what I was looking at once the first comment told me it was a fox. From there Slow didn’t need to fill me in any further but still did so I thanked them but misspoke because I happened to think it was a good idea to check Lemmy and hammered up a quick answer at a bad time because I knew I’d forget otherwise. I’ll now make sure to fix that for your pleasure. From there, there was zero reason to stick your nose in to sound bigger than someone else. Get this; even though I like animals, I don’t necessarily spend my time learning about all of them because they aren’t in my primary interests. I’ve heard of arctic foxes and when I did I looked up a single picture of one many years ago. Somewhere along the way the arctic fox and the silver fox - which doesn’t look as friendly as arctic foxes - have formed a weird amalgamation in my head. If I’d seen this fox in the right context I would have instantly known what it was but that wasn’t the case here.
The reason for my initial attitude was because your message read - and still does - as if you were implying I was dumb for not knowing something obvious to you and not because I felt dumb. At this point, your plethora of edits only reads as someone who’s realised they were being a prick, first had the instinct to set it right then just had to give in to your own hubris to once again try put me down. I know for a fact that I know things you don’t and vice versa. That’s life. I have better things to spend my time on that getting put down by someone who feels the need to flaunt their own understanding of something that doesn’t serve in everyday life. Hopefully, I’ve now justified my own obliviousness to his highness. Have a nice day.
It definitely doesn’t and you continue to be defensive for me pointing out behavior isn’t relevant when identifying animals. I understand now that you didn’t actually mean that but it’s still absolutely what you said. I was responding to something that was said, if you didn’t mean it then there is no reason to get defensive.
Well it’s a good thing my life isn’t made to serve an obtuse cunt like you then. You’ll just have to filled out your bored periods talking down to someone else. Have a nice day
Gee wiz buddy. I wasn’t trying to get under your skin. You shouldn’t let internet comments make you this upset. I was correcting something I saw, chill the fuck out. You said yourself you didn’t even mean to say what I was correcting. So I don’t understand all this hatred coming from you. Unless you did actually mean it and feel bad that an uneducated random internet person got the better of you so you’re just trying to save face by saying you misspoke. But if that isn’t what’s happening there is absolutely no reason to be this upset.
Right, this I-can-do-no-wrong attitude is getting tiresome. You keep throwing this shit at me that I’m getting defensive but it’s more than obvious you’re deflecting. I couldn’t give less of a mild shit about your correction. The problem is the way you approach people, the way you twist events so that anyone disagreeing with what you’re saying systematically means they feel bad about themselves like they’re a lesser being. The problem is you.
Let me highlight the problem area:
“But it looks exactly like an Arctic Fox”
Something doesn’t look “exactly like” something they’re unfamiliar with, yet you took it upon yourself to talk down to someone.
“Yeah man, my bad. Didn’t mean to sound judgemental.” I never said you were being judgmental at this point which means this was your own conclusion from a re-read of your comment after my response.
“it’s okay to not know stuff. Lack of knowledge does not make you stupid. However, getting defensive because someone knew something you didn’t, definitely does.” Then you rethought it. You chose to try throw the whole thing in my face and doubled down on the judgment with a hearty side dose of patronization and make it out to be just me who has misinterpreted your initial message to be judgmental despite having acknowledged it coming across as that way yourself.
If you had left that first sentence out of your initial message, I would have noticed my fuck up and simply responded “Oh shit, I screwed up my message. I know animals can be friendly. I’ll go fix my message. Thanks for pointing it out” and we’d both have gone on with our days. But you just had to start it by being a know-it-all dick. My mistake was a simple blunder which I have acknowledged but you just keep finding ways to manipulate this response thread to make me out as this toddler throwing a tantrum for having been wrong. It doesn’t get any simpler; the problem is you, not the correction, Y-O-U.
Now, I’m done spelling simple shit out to you. The userbase of Lemmy is still on the small side and I like to think that one day I’ll come across a comment from you that I’ll enjoy but one more of your manipulative attempts to twist my reaction and I’ll happily block your ass.
Thank you. I had no idea arctic foxes could be so friendly
soand it didn’t even occur to me when I asked.Edit: minor adjustment to avoid confusion from judgmental know-it-alls
But it looks exactly like an Arctic Fox.Why would behavior make a difference? Any animal can be friendly in the right circumstances.Edited for sensitive asshole.
