I think you’re overestimating liberal centrists. Plenty of left liberals I know think that there’s an “appropriate” age to learn that there are other sexualities, like it isn’t the first thing toddlers start learning about themselves.

I think you’re making an extremely negative assumption about centrists. And I think it’s dangerous to shame people who try to compromise. Driving more and more to extremes is just going to cause a civil war someday

I’m a “centrist liberal” on many issues (but not social ones)

Edit: to clarify after thoughtful discussion with my fellow lemmoniers, I have to specify that my sympathy for centrism doesn’t apply to human rights issues. I just think there are lots of other areas we can find more compromise rather than being ragebait fodder

Here’s the thing though. When it comes to the rights and recognition of lgbt people, there is no compromise.

I agree with that whole heartedly. It just disturbs me when agreement (or attempted agreement) becomes demonized

I’m glad you recognize that there are things that simply cannot be compromised on. Generally speaking, when marginalized groups punch up like this they’re painting a broad brush and can’t always account for allies. Part of being a privileged ally is recognizing when something does or doesn’t apply to you

I get that. And I’m more than willing to swallow my pride for the cause. I just see opportunities for peaceful progress narrowing as each side grows more polarized and simply disregards each other. The stark reality is that we either find a way to open dialogue or somehow separate into two states (which is quite the nightmare scenario the more you think about it). I’m not talking LGBTQ+ issues. I’m just taking general political polarization

I would delineate that as telling people what to do for “christian” and “proper” reasons vs. just managing the economic system as efficiently as possible. It’s issue by issue per my personal judgment
