By all means post “RACE RESULTS!” With the results in the comments.

I have just got home to watch the results. Checked ALL while having a coffee before settling down for the race. FECK! Some numpty posted Verstapen wins.

Race ruined for me. I’ll bet that I am not the only one.

PLEASE concider us unfortunate ones who can not watch live.

Uhm, if there is a place to get spoiled… it is in a F1 community post race. This one’s on you mate.

It takes zero effort to make the post title “2023 Hungary Grand Prix Results Discussion” not “Max Verstappen wins the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix”.

It’s also far easier for someone who doesn’t want to be spoiled to simply avoid places where spoilers are likely, than moderate thousands of other people to follow such a rule.

I saw the spoiler post title at the top of the front page of my instance. So I’ll have to unsubscribe or even filter the community. Sure. But that’s pretty annoying when we could easily just not post race results in post titles. I don’t understand why y’all get so bitter about a reasonable ask.

I popped into Lemmy for a few minutes while using the facilities this morning. An F1 spoiler was the second post in my feed. How about we not post spoilers in the title. It’s really not a big ask.

Please considering not visiting social media if you haven’t seen the race, you can’t make the world spin around you.

Yeah. I had to wait a few hours before I could watch the pole yesterday and I basically had to not touch my phone at all during that time. I’ve spoiled it for my self before, but I have no one else to blame but me

Being located in Western Canada I just won’t wake up at 6am everyday on the weekend to watch sessions. I often don’t watch the sessions until Saturday and Sunday evenings and I rarely ever have things spoiled for me. I have Formula 1 instances blocked on my main Lemmy account and a specific account only subbed to F1 stuff so it’s really easy to manage with Lemmy. All my browsers have stupid news feeds turned off and I have the advantage of not using other social media. Onus is definitely on the person trying to avoid spoilers.

“you can’t make the world spin around you”

That’s not what I am asking for. However, giving a little concideration for the many people unable to watch live doesn’t take much effort.

It’s your responsibility to avoid news and social media if you can’t watch the race.

Gonna be honest I’d you’re watching F1 this season it’s generally not to figure out who got P1…

De Vries DNS at Spa, sry for spoilerinos.

But on topic: I just learned to not hit social media until watching or unsubing the instance.

You can’t make all the other content that advents from the race spoiler-free (tweets, photos, videos etc), especially if some drama breaks out.

This is coming from someone who got spoiled yesterday of the pole sitter by a thread here as I was getting into the second half of the Q3 replay…

I also hate spoilers since I often watch the race later. Me and a few friends will take care not to chat about the race until we are all in the clear. And our simracing Discord has a no-F1-spoilers in general chat policy. However I’m not going to ask Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, news outlets and now Lemmy to keep quiet. It’s just common sense to stay away from potential spoiler sources until you’ve watched the race. These days that pretty much means a media blackout for me! No internet, radio or TV! Worst thing for me is hopping on to a catch-up service to watch the race, and seeing the result plastered all over the front page!

I 100% agree. The times where I need to watch a race late I need to avoid all social media.

At the very least, don’t post the names of the winners in the post title

I mean I often watch the race late. So I just avoid social media. Lemmy is already lacking interaction. I don’t think we should stifle it further…

I live on the west coast of the US. The race started at 6am local time. Given I’m usually not home until midnight on a Saturday night, there’s no way I’m watching it live. There are millions of us in the same boat.

As someone who always watches the race delayed:

Please DO post spoilers in the titles. We need more F1 content and discussion on Lemmy, and the way to grow the community is to have highlights and other posts with descriptive titles.

Yes, writing “race results” instead of “Verstappen wins” won’t make a difference, but I want to see videos with titles like “Driver X spins out on lap 60”, or “Alpine double DNFs again”. Then we can all discuss the exciting/tragic/interesting parts of the race. If we don’t allow posts like that until days after the race this community won’t grow.

The onus is on me to avoid social media when I can’t watch the race live (which is 90% of the time).

My recommendation for you is what I did for years on Reddit. Unsubscribe before the race if you know you can’t watch on time, resubscribe once you’ve watched.

What were you expecting to see here if not “spoilers” of the race posted as it went on. Whether highlights or winner, if you don’t want to know you shouldn’t get on.

That said, I would like to see more lively community discussion (before, during, and after the race) and saying “just don’t come here” isn’t very welcoming either.

I completely agree. It’s awful to have the race ruined and spoiled just because you opened Lemmy witty thinking, and no, blocking/unblocking the community each weekend is a garbage tier non solution.
