If you read lemmy threads about the war, “NATO is a defensive alliance” is a mantra repeated all the time even though all its aggressions and entire zero times it defended its members are not a secret even to them. You can stick it to their face and they will just ignore it and double down with “countries joins because they are threatened by Russia”.
Someone from NATO could do a press release to explain their whole history and as long as they end their talk with ‘and that’s why we’re a defensive alliance’ literally no lib in the world will question the fact that nothing else about the press release supported that conclusion.
Remember the press conference when UN speaker openly denied US occupation of part of Syria and got completely demolished by a Chinese journalist over that? And remember what the liberals comments were about that? They sided with the speaker and denied the occupation.
