This is probably a ploy to get Russia to deny this, so they can then turn around and say that Russia isn’t serious about peace. They are doing this to get the lights off Zelensky categorically and most publicly turning down the US ceasefire proposal given to him in the recent London talks between Ukraine and US.
Yeah, Peskov already made a statement basically saying this is false. I saw interesting speculation that the story was put out intentionally so Russia would come out and dismiss it before the Ukraine meeting in London, and then the narrative could be that Russia doesn’t want a deal. Peskov’s statement is more sophisticated than that though, he doesn’t outright deny it, but very strongly insinuates it’s bullshit.
