I have heard mixed reviews on it. What do you think about it?
Better than nothing. Like any org, local chapter is the most important thing. There are green party chapters with MLs in charge and there are PSL chapters with sex pests in charge. Try and see what they do in your community. If they do work you agree with, great, if they are inactive or you don’t like the work they do, find something better. Can’t hurt to check it out though. Maybe great, maybe terrible, but you’ll never know if you don’t show up and see for yourself.
Revisionist, corrupt, electoralist garbage.
There have been many threads on how garbage they are. If you’re looking for a half decent org, if there’s a PSL branch near you that is a much better bet. They’re the only actually passable, progressive, and actionable org that has more then 10 members
i was thinking of joining them but i think i’ll just join my local PSL chapter. anything is better than nothing but i hear they’re shit
I will just say, please join CPUSA if it’s the only org near you, local chapters of orgs are often far better than the national group (at least in the us), and it’s more important to just actually be in an org organizing than doing nothing waiting for the perfect communist group to come along
That’s what I was hoping for, a more active local org that was involved in support and that I could volunteer with, even if it wasn’t as out as walking around with CPUSA banners. However in my area the CPUSA club is tiny tiny. Like TINY. Being in the southern US, it’s fairly dangerous to be a known communist with the neighbors a lot of us have down here.
Whereas I couldn’t care less if someone wants to try something towards me, threats or otherwise. The few party members I’ve met are young’uns that have an ok grasp of theory, but faced with some of the opposition I can definitely see coming up… we need more people and more community support. To my knowledge it’s basically less than 2 dozen kids for the whole state chapter. Quite possibly less than one dozen. Obviously I’m not trying to say that any comrade would in any way not be welcome… but there’s a lot of work and organizing to be done and growth is definitely needed.
I’ve been trying to think of different ways to find more, I really need to get more involved in things where there are larger groups of people involved in mutual aid and community action and look for them, but like I said that’s what I was hoping for in joining. I’m in no way a leader but we need a lot more action. As we don’t have the numbers, and even if we did, I think the best option is to get involved in actions and volunteering that we agree with that’s not necessarily communist, to get the ball rolling building and finding our people.

Trust me I feel you there, I live in Texas lol. Im also extremely concerned about what’s coming, when the boot starts coming down on me and my comrades (many of whom are LGBTQ+ on top of being communists and thus are in extra danger), we aren’t currently prepared for it. For instance, my local orgs data security is extremely bad, and I’d rather not give Abbott or whatever other fascist ghoul is in office a free list of our current and past members and their emails.
Good luck on your organizing, we all need it lol
They were good before, idk about now
