Morning all! What are you good at? Do you have great skills at work? Have a good eye for fashion? Good mommy? Whatever it is, we want to know!
I’m not a woman, but on behalf of my partner: she’s awesome with graphic design, in less than a year, as a contractor for a national graphic design agency, she has won employee of the month, which included a nice $100 bonus (she doesn’t work for the company directly, this is unheard of).
But me, personally, I’m really good at laying in bed and making my pussy feel good.
I have no formal medical training and I don’t get paid, but I’ve become pretty damn good at a lot of fairly advanced nursing/RT skills. At least as they apply to the person I care for (and love). My thanks to various ICU personnel whose help prepared me for taking over the whole damn job and doing it for decades. And to my beloved for making it all worthwhile.
Love this kind of post. I’m good at thrifting, I find 90% of my favorite clothes from thrift stores haha. I’m also good at articulating my thoughts and feelings. :)
Those are both fantastic skills! Any thrifting tips?
I try not to overthink anything until I’ve actually tried it on. So if anything catches my eye I’ll try it haha and then kinda revise my opinion from there. I also always like to try one or two things that I wouldn’t normally go for but think they look kinda cute? I’ve gotten several of my favorite dresses by doing that 😊 consequently I always end up with like 30 things to try on haha
I’m good at my job. I routinely have to take breaks because I’m faster than everyone else and I don’t want to set my own work standards too high. I do work on city water systems. This past week I was out by myself and managed to do more fire hydrant work than the guys who were in groups of two by noon. I let them pass me by the end of the day so it didn’t look like they were slacking or, like I should achieve a crazy amount every day.
That’s great mate! You’re obviously both skilled, efficient and smart about how you do things.
Organization and multi-tasking
Me too! It’s just so satisfying to organize things :)
I’m good at home canning. I’m good at baking on a homemaking level! (No masterpiece cakes from me, but amazing holiday cookies!). I’m good at making little cats love me!
I’ve never been able to can, so I admire that. And I love home made baked stuff even the not great stuff is loads better than store bought!
Water bath canning is surprisingly easy to get into! And very safe, if you follow the safety stuff from like Ball Blue Book/Kerr and the National Center for Home Food Preservation things and such!
Nice one thanks!
I am good at taking care of my dogs (and my past pets which includes cats), I love them very much and I’ve given them each a good life during their time with me. I am a good partner to my SO, I communicate with them (this took a lot of work to get better at) and am affectionate. I am good at listening to my friends and giving them support. I am good at computer-related things and like to tinker. I am good at styling my hair and applying eye makeup. I am good at sticking to a diet (lost 30 lbs, 15 lbs more to go).
That’s a lot of truly brilliant things well done. I’m really impressed by the computer tinkering, I’ve always struggled with that. That’s A LOT of weight, you’ve worked hard to do that. What inspired you to lose weight?
Thanks 😁 I had always wanted to lose weight (I gained it around college) but it felt impossible at times since I am disabled. When covid happened, I read a lot of stuff about overweight and obese people dying from covid. So I’ve been taking steps since then, reducing/replacing my food, weighing my food, etc. It was very hard but I’ve seen a consistent slope since then. I also downloaded a new app called Walkscape, it is like Runescape except you power everything with your steps which has encouraged me to walk more on my good days. There is a community for it btw !walkscape@lemmy.world. I don’t think I had covid at any point, maybe I was asymptomatic, and had the vaccines as soon as they were ready. But still, seeing my old clothes fitting again is great.
I’m disabled too so I can really relate. Your health is a fantastic inspiration, you deserve to be healthy. Sounds like you’ve been sensible, you’ve given yourself manageable tasks to do and you’ve stuck to it. You can be really proud of it
I can honestly say I am good at being a psychotherapist. I hated my old career (financial auditing), and I love this one. Because I love it, I am motivated to learn new things and become the best I can be. I have amazing clients, and they are making progress. I’m proud of what I do!
That’s a fantastic career to have, and changing careers was a powerful step. You get to help others but really develop yourself at the same time, so it’s win win! Are there any particular areas of therapy you’re interested in?
I work mostly with women with childhood and relationship trauma, and I do EMDR, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, and Internal Family Systems.
Those are great areas. Have you read Emma Katzs bookon how coercive control effects children and mothers? It’s sensational
Oooh, no I haven’t! Buying it now. Thanks!
Good fashion sense I guess
That’s a great skill! It’s a way to be creative every day
I’m a good reader. I’m good at systems, I can take a group of disjointed processes and make them cohesive. I’m good at holding space for other people, I’m genuinely interested to hear how they view themselves and the world. Also, I think I’m pretty good at being funny, it’s a self-defense mechanism honed over years of masking adhd and anxiety lol
You sound like a really well rounded person with a good heart. You mention disjointed processes cohesion, can you give me an example?
I’m good at supporting people. I’m good at listening without judgement, getting people to open up to me, always being there and I keep people’s secrets. I’m a really good friend.
I can tell from all the supportive comments you’ve left in this thread - I bet you’re a great friend!
That’s a really kind thing to say thanks so much! There’s some great people in this community so being supportive comes easy
