To be serious though, I was in a relationship because “hmm a bass player in a leather jacket”.
Look, everyone knows that the bass player carries the band>!'s gear!<
As a bassist of 30+ years…… I feel seen.
Usually we’re not seen. This is your moment, brother.
Jokes on you, I’m colourblind
Then how did you know this was a joke at all?
I should buy a bass
Same. Very, very heavily hinted at a used bass guitar for Christmas this year. Put a harmonica on the list as a joke as I was being nagged to put more stuff on the list.
Now I own a harmonica.
That’s your mistake, you should have included accessories for the guitar so they’d feel guilted into buying it for you.
Or you just get a bunch of accessories and nothing to use then with.
I own my part in this, though I know if I added the amp, cables, maybe a pedal, and some guitar picks, I would have ended up with a nice collection of guitar picks.
Because my wife and kid are assholes who think they are hilarious, which I have encouraged because I am too.
You can get a cheap $80 bass on Amazon. They actually last a long time, i still play mine, and it keeps your tuning forever.
Grab one of those and play for a year. It’s the perfect starter bass.
( I love mine. The guitar shop in my area always asks why i keep using it. By itself it’s got too much “trumpet” sounding, but with a reverb or other pedal i love it)
I mean id probably go all out and get something in the $750 range ish. I’m a musician and I play many instruments, just haven’t gotten to bass yet.
is it possible to change tunings on a bass from say E to Eb without needing to take it into a shop? I say this because it is possible on guitar but I’m not sure if the giant bass string tension will make this process different and more difficult.
Yeah. I tune to Eb when I feel like playing some guns n roses with no issues. I think I like guitar and bass equally. Bass is definitely more fun though.
what kind of bass do you recommend? I mostly play prog rock, rock fusion and metal/power metal
Honestly, whatever looks and feels the best for you. I would, generally, stick to mid range basses. Something that can be properly set up to play comfortably. Your tone will mostly come from your amp/cab so don’t worry about pickups too much.
Oh yeah in your case go for what you want.
You can tune to e flat, sure. The bass is just the four bottom strings of a guitar, with a bigger gauge. EADG is the normal tuning
Or get a 5 string for those super low notes.
Do it. And put effort into it. It’s a great investment.
What’s the purpose of bass players?
Well, somebody has to wake up, wash, dress and feed the drummer before practice.
That’s bassism.
Which is worse, bassism or drumism?
I find the opposite is true gender swapped. Nothing makes a girl more attractive to me than playing bass.
I recently ha a crush on Juna Serita.
Imo the only thing more attractive than a girl playing the bass is a girl playing funky bass : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3K8dNctci1Y
Wow.
How do you get more of that music?
I have to agree. Instant crush.
Ah, legend
🟪 boys
Do you know Igor and The Red Elvises? That bass balalaika, and ooh dang, THAT Bass Player!
They are great live. Have seen them several times and it’s always a good time.
they don’t call her Este Bass Face for nothin
Without bass there is no rhythm or soul the music sounds flat
Preaching to the choir, my guy
Wouldn’t people want partners with demonstrable senses of rhythm?
Not according to my maracas…
Metal drummer: hold my beer
Good bass does just as much as good drums for metal in my opinion. Here’s a good example of every part of a band with a chance to shine:
BEYOND CREATION - Omnipresent Perception: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0MkJtI3FvU
Drums - 3:08
Guitar 1 - 3:49
Bass - 4:17
Guitar 2 - 4:45
That’s some crazy talent. They don’t even need vocals. Probably more listenable without, actually. But I’m getting old.
From the tapping to the fretless six to the solo duel, very very cool. Thank you
Yeah, but we slap and make the ground shake.
I love that. I’m going to say that at practice this weekend.
I had to turn down my Fender Rumble 500 because if I turn it to 5, it makes my pants flap like I’m in front of a fan, and it caused enough vibration to make one of my drummers crash stands fall over lol
F Rumbles are great. That’s a great example why lol
Now you just have to use the threat of turning it up to end discussions
we make the asses shake. it is our role in society
Amen
Being able to play funk music is a benefit.
Thanks Stilgar, that was funky.
Suddenly I’m visualizing a Dune version of Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes, playing funk, and presented in the visual style of the recent Denis Villeneuve films.
Paul McCartney
Flea
Sting
Ok, but is that upright bass single?
William Murderface
/s
Never heard of them. Do they stream or something?
Don’t forget Lemmy (Kilmister)
Death from above 1979
Someone send this to Davie504
(Don’t actually, he’s probably seen it all.)
B A S S !
Yes, Nikki Sixx, notoriously poor, and girlfriendless bassist.
Hey you know, those fingers are working those thick cords and getting a work out. So you know…those fingers can be pretty useful for other things if you know what I mean.
Don’t forget the quarter-inch callouses. Megusta.
Lile galloping, and shadow puppets, and that table top football game with a folded piece of paper, and
