Its not a completely unreasonable stance to take tbh. When your looking at radar of a missile strike coming in theres really no way to garuntee the payloads are conventional when the missiles are provided by a nuclear state. And with how close Ukraine is and how fast modern missiles are it doesnt give you much time to figure it out. A big part of nuclear war doctrine is you try to launch first to disable your enemies launch capabilities. If Russia has even a passing concern their launch capabilities could be threatened they WILL launch. I really hope the idiots running the world are careful with this.
This was an absolutely terrifying interview with Theodore Postol regarding just how littler response time Russia has in case of a nuclear strike. A decision basically has to be made under 5 minutes, which rules out any sort of a centralized response coordinated at the top. The people in charge of the weapons basically have to make a call immediately whether they end the world or not.
I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
Please, prepare the nukes, President Putin… My people long for freedom…
Seriously though, if it all comes down on our heads it may be more of a relief than anything else. Still better if it doesn’t get to that point of course, but whatever happens will be entirely the west’s fault and the result of the rest of humanity’s hands being forced into action, something that is even rather overdue.
look on a bright side though, we’ll have finally solved the whole global warming problem
