When Sync for Reddit show a popup promoting Sync for Lemmy, it should also point to this kind of service, to ease the migration. It would also be nice, if sync for Lemmy also had a shortcut.
Besides that a link to a more general community directory like https://lemmyverse.net/ would be nice to have.

While I get your excitement and willingness to invite more people here, I don’t believe Sync and its team should be responsible for or representative of the potential migration of its users.
Of course, the official Sync Lemmy community should be advertised, but as for the choice of migrating and choosing an instance, Sync shouldn’t interfere with that, as that is not its role or its purpose.
Please don’t forget that some of us have absolutely no clue as to what we are doing. As a long term sync user for me Reddit IS sync. Every time I used the website or the app, it made me feel ill.
Any pointers I can get to start off after Reddit third party apps close down is hugely appreciated. In 6 months time, once I’ve got the hang of it I will be happy to make my own choices. For now I’m grabbing at everything that is made available and I thank you for that.Well, Sync for Reddit is basically being kicked off Reddit, so a new app is being created to work with Lemmy. Of course it is in the app developers interest to promote the new applicataion, and from what I understand they plan to do so by adding a popup to sync informing them of the new Sync for Lemmy application. And if they are pointing Reddit users to Lemmy, it is only logical that they want the users to be able to easy find their place and find the communities of interest… so i don’t understand why they should not do that. What you are saying is that they should not try to make any users use their new app they have spent time developing, and that just doen’t make any sense. But I agree that they should not promote any particular instance or specific community, which is why I pointed to services that list all instances and makes it easy to find a suitable instance, and makes it easy to find communities that matches any particular subreddit.
Sync is a for profit app. Why would the dev not have the right to advertise the one other app he is developing? And in order for the user to become interested, he has to sell the idea of Lemmy first if we are talking about new users. If we talk about old Lemmy users, then he should be advertising his app on Lemmy itself which he is already doing by setting up a community and posting to other relevant ones.
