Magnussen seemed great next to Schumacher, but Hülkenberg has made him seem underwhelming, especially considering the time Nico had spent outside of Formula 1. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were to replace Magnussen.
Not super surprising it’s looking like Hulk will stick with Haas. He’s been pretty solid, especially in qualifying.
Magnussen has been okay, but he’s definitely underperforming compared to Hulk (although probably even with last year). If I had to bet I’d say he’ll stick around too.
Kmag has definitely been underperforming but I really think Haas need a stable pair for a couple of years at least to help develop the car.
I totally agree. I honestly don’t think they’re all that interested in being an upper-midfield team right now.
They seem very risk adverse. I think their priorities are don’t crash/finish every race and to occasionally score enough points to finish 7th or 8th in the constructor’s. And right now their lineup is essentially delivering that.
I think they purely exist because Geene Haas likes to see his company’s logo driven around the circuits. He has zero ambition to achieve anything in F1. If there’s one team that’s blocking the spot of a better, more committed entry, it’s Haas.
Pretty sure he’s freely admitted the team is only there as a marketing tool for his cnc machines. So long as they keep themselves roughly break even or the cost is only a couple million a year then that’s great for him. Gene is rich as fuck but he’s not a billionaire, he can afford to market in a non-standard way like this but he can’t be like Red Bull and market by making the best damn team on the grid to sell a drink…
I hope they’ll have at least one rookie with some talent
They can’t afford to have a rookie. They need drivers with experience that can help develop the car.
But rookies are usually heavily funded by sponsors. They need an experienced driver ánd the money.
That only works if they listen to the drivers.
Unfortunately they need money for that more. A rookie will cost them less than two decent pilots.
Plus the team is perpetually underfunded, the team is a major let down for me.
I feel like Haas’ issues this far have been more mechanical failings with a hint of collisions sprinkled in. Yes, KMag can improve on the driving but I feel it’s an engineering problem that should be the main focus
