And this is the beauty of a decentralized fediverse. The downside to all of this though is this is probably going to some people pernamently leaving. This is like the 3rd time recently world and other major instances have gotten tackled by bad actors.

If lemmy.world is being Ddosed it’s not obvious. The site loads quickly for me lemmy.ml isn’t loading. The rest of the comment do make a good point that being on multiple instances helps spread the load and makes Lemmy as a whole hard to affect. And having alternate accounts is definitely a good idea

sh.itjust.works is still pretty high up there in popularity, I could see that being the next major target.

Tbf there’s spam and trolls everywhere, but I think the DDoS thing is maybe just working down the list of popular instances. However this has probably been obfuscated somewhat, since bot-filled instances have jumped up the tables in terms of number of users.

My head cannon is it’s because lemmy.world and lemmy.ml are tankie echo chambers trying to be the “default” instances. Lots of people aren’t down with simping for authoritarian regimes.

Other than that your reason may be most likely. Just people being unhinged. I doubt it’s Reddit revenge though, Reddit hate seems to be pretty universal; even among people still using it.

Could have fooled me. Maybe it’s not as extreme as the others but the creators are still rumored to be tankies. It’s entirely possible that I’m wrong though.

I did see a comment in the politics community get tons of downvotes for saying something unpopular. A mod replied saying people were also reporting it but they’re allowing it to stay because it didn’t break any rules. I checked back later out of curiosity and sure enough it was removed.

Just to be fair to lemmy.world however it’s possible some mods are acting in good faith like the one that replied while others don’t have the same standards.

      Ddos’d

Hopefully now people will realize spreading out is the entire point of decentralization.

How do you spread out? I’m a noob and don’t really understand Federated servers. I just downloaded Liftoff and logged on

Find a back-up instance and sign up for it. I personally use Lemmy.world and Lemm.ee for mine.

Go into Liftoff, Accounts, Add Account, give it the Instance url, sign in. You can now freely hop from account to account. World down? I go to my .ee NakariLexfortaine.

The trick is to always be prepared…

Edit: I was going to say and always have alternate accounts from my alt account but this comment isn’t showing up there lol. Seems Lemmy World is still having server struggles.

Edit 2: For all fellow Lemmy World users, it seems federation is pretty broken right now. No comments are going through.

I was on lemmy.world but now moved to aussie.zone and the performance is better than reddit. Never crashes, feels snappy. I recommend people to move to aussie.zone
