  • As far as I know Clone Hero and YARG are the best options going now. They both support guitar/ bass, drums, and keyboard, although only YARG has vocals.

YARG is still in development but I haven’t had any problems with it. There’s also support to download venues, though I haven’t messed with it so I don’t know how well they work yet. I’m also guessing there will eventually be support for characters at some point, but I haven’t hear anything officially. They also release on Linux.

Clone Hero has a full release and the developers are still active. As far as I know there’s no venue support, although some people set the songs’ music videos to play in the background. It also looks like they only release on Windows.

Both of them come with a handful of songs, though you can download a ton more. They use the same files so you can have both pull from the same library if you want. I can’t remember where I found the links anymore, but I have the tracks for all of the Rock Band and Guitar Hero games that had a full band, plus other random songs I got from https://rhythmverse.co/ and https://www.enchor.us/ The songs for the Guitar Hero games that were just guitar and bass are out there too if you don’t care about drums, keyboards, or vocals.

I’m getting a weird thing where if I refresh Canvas some of the pixels I put down aren’t showing up, but if I try to replace them it tells me I already put that color there. The heat map shows they’re placed too, so I’m guessing it’ll be fine. Just wondering if this is a known issue.

Edit: It’s fine now, maybe it was just me, idk.

  • I recently ran my first game of The Witch is Dead for my kids’ first game and we had a blast. You play as woodland creatures trying to avenge the death of a friendly witch. It has simple, one page rules so you don’t get bogged down flipping through a book trying to find stuff. It also has a little chart you can use to give you some basic points for your adventure, but it’s fine if you make your own thing up.

Another one page game you might want to check out is Everyone is John. I haven’t played it yet, but from what I’ve seen it tends to get kind of dark since everyone is a competing personality trying to control John.

  • Balan Wonderworld is such a wonderful pile of nonsense. It has all of these different power-ups, but a good portion of them are just different ways to shoot or jump. It feels like it was made for small kids, but there’s no way a kid could get through some of the difficult parts toward the end. The absolute lack of any explanation as to why anything is happening. I love it so much.
