I just tried it. Seems to be fine for me. Just brought me to a login screen.

Yeah, it feels like its all supposed to be there. But without getting any of my actual friends to make an account, its hard to test any of it out. Though the bigger issue right now is that it seems my instance (friendica.world) is down or dead. The list of other instances is also struggling to load for me.
My complaint about Friendica is that it just doesn’t actually seem to do the part of Facebook that I actually want. At least not very well. I don’t want to see news, current events, memes and crap in that feed. I want to see posts and pictures from IRL friends, life updates, event organization, interest groups, etc. With privacy settings so only actual friends you want see the posts.
In its current state Friendica seems to just be a skin over mastodon, with some alpha stage friend features.
Soapbox@lemmy.zipto World News@quokk.au•Greta Thunberg Was Abused By Israeli Authorities, Says French Doctor4·9 hours agoI agree, psychological torture is no joke. My point was that the original headline really led me to expect to read a story of sexual abuse, or other physical violence. It was actually a relief to read that it wasn’t, even if the sleep depravation is still awful.
Soapbox@lemmy.zipto World News@quokk.au•Greta Thunberg Was Abused By Israeli Authorities, Says French Doctor83·20 hours agoYeah, the title is really misleading and sensational if that’s what the “abuse” consisted of.
For me the scrolls pile up because I forget about them, on top of the worry I need to save them.

Most comfortable I have ever tried. I’ve been wearing them exclusively since I discovered them 10+ years ago. The oldest pairs lasted 8ish years before the elastic started to give out.
I’ve had a cheap IKEA “ORDNING” scale for a decade, and I think I have changed the battery once. Though it appears to have been discontinued, and replaced with a very different looking model.

The freakiest part about this is how believably muskrat’s face photoshops in.
Soapbox@lemmy.zipto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do I have this weird reversed-"FOMO" feeling when I watch TV shows or Movies about Pre-Information-Era time period, like not as in "I miss the past", but actually as in "Okay this era is weird"?English91·3 days agoThe “damn it I forgot, let me google it” option, back then, was looking it up in the set of encyclopedias your family probably had. Or if you didn’t have a set, or needed more elaborate information, you went to the library.
I remember it was a big deal as a kid when we got the encyclopedia Britannica on CD-Rom. So I could just type in what I was looking for instead of having to try to find it manually.

Even in Paris.
Soapbox@lemmy.zipto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you believe that most people act according to their own self-interest? Is acting only according to your self-interest a good strategy in life?122·3 days agoI’ve often thought about the idea that there is really no such thing as true altruisim. Because no matter what, you feel good about doing good. Even if you don’t tell anyone about the good thing you did, you still get a good feeling from it, therefore there is some inherent selfishness involved no matter what.
Of course there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. People should absolutely being doing good things and get to feel good about it.
I feel like a laser cutter would have left discolored edges. Could be a cricut style bladed cutter though.
Andrew Jackson was the cruelest so far. Give Trump more time to cook and we will see.
I too have wondered about this. I doubt I will ever think to ask a chatbot a thing I would normally just “google” using a search engine. Sifting through search results is a skill/habit honed over 25+ years that just makes more sense to me. I also don’t trust AI to answer correctly.
I often tear up from scenes from movies and tv. Yet basically never do for anything in real life.
I was listening to an NPR story the other day about how a ton of people showed up to donate blood to save an infant, and only one was a match, but it was anonymous, now the kid is a healthy 20yr old and the mom can’t thank the person who saved them. It had my eyes all mushy on my commute home.
Yet, I had a cousin, and an uncle pass within the last few months and while I was sad, and I miss them, not a tear generated.
As a genAI hater, I appreciate this. I already block the dedicated communities as I see them in /all. This is helpful to filter out more of the outliers if posters cooperate and actually use the tag. (I think alot of genAI zealots get off on trying to see if people will notice their posts are AI.)
